Former U.S. Sen. Jack Danforth (R-MO) says he won't support Akin

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Former U.S. Sen. Jack Danforth, unlike some Missouri Republicans, said Wednesday that he will not vote for or offer any support to U.S. Rep. Todd Akin in his challenge to Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.

“The problem with Akin is that he hurts the brand,” Danforth said. “He damages the Republican Party.”

Speaking with reporters after appearing at a campaign event for GOP attorney general candidate Ed Martin, Danforth said that he cannot reconcile Akin’s controversial stands with his idea of an inclusive Republican Party.

“The Republican Party has to make it clear we are an inclusive party, we welcome all kinds of people into the party and that we won’t go out of our way to offend major parts of the public, in this case women,” Danforth said. “There are a lot of women who think that Akin is just beyond the pale and they are really offended by him and I think it’s important to understand and respect that.”

because they only ever do it when they're out of office and not running for reelection.

Just like I don't give Cheney any credit for his stance on homosexuals. Big whoop. Your policies say otherwise.
