Please explain how we can have Hillary Clinton be a viable candidate in November after today's announcement over the classified info.
Do you honestly think Republicans are going to not make this THE central issue?
We will lose. Tell me otherwise.. With words and not snark please.
EDIT: This isn't a hit piece. Bernie loses, Hillary is the nominee.. How do we win?

(34,845 posts)...should he be the nominee. The essence of this argument is that it doesn't matter and we should fight!, fight! FIGHT! no matter what.
All well and good in principle but why does that principle get discarded for Clinton?

(2,052 posts)Certainly they won't hurl accusations of illegal activity towards Sanders though to answer your question. But still, how do we win?

(34,845 posts)And not agreeing with them when it's convenient.
That includes supporting one of our own. Like her or not, Clinton is a Democrat. You can support someone else but trying to make the most of a right-wing attack out of political expediency is not an admirable trait to see displayed on DU. IMO.

(5,761 posts)You think the dirt that Republicans have on Bernie comes close in some measure to Hillary? You're joking right.

(19,326 posts)You may not agree with the veracity of how the concerns are addressed, but it's
not accurate to say we simply don't address the concerns at all.

(80,708 posts)Aside from the crowd who has always been a-swoon over the idea of voting for Hillary because she's Hillary, silly! There haven't been a fuckton of other cogent rationales offered to your Democratic primary voter, as to why we should support her.
It sure as shit isnt because of some slate of bold policy prescriptions and positions on actual issues.

(24,853 posts)Pray tell. Will they show a photograph of him in a Dashiki shirt and sandals taken in the 70's?
randome
(34,845 posts)And they will use his open intention to raise taxes against him. Mind you, I have nothing against either aspect of him. I say tax the hell out of me if it will help others.
But seeing as Sanders has said the email 'story' is nothing and we should ignore it, I would think more of his supporters would follow his advice.

(24,853 posts)Makes that issue one that doesn't carry as much weight as some think. The voting public gets younger (in relation to old fucks like me) and less concerned about labels like "socialist".
As far as what Bernie Sanders said about emails... I thought his comment was "I'm tired of hearing about your damn emails!" I don't remember hearing or reading where he said it was nothing and we should ignore it. The email snafu isn't about Benghazi and bespeaks a carelessness I don't want from my President.

(6,123 posts)...has already jumped on it, while a spokesman for Bernie declined to talk about it.
The Republicans are going to be all over this and it is not good. People who are completely undecided may shift to Trump. Just not good.

(2,125 posts)This is going to be a free-for-all among the entire republican party. Bet on it.

(2,052 posts)Hillary may in fact win the nomination.
And this will be our downfall, no matter how many of us fall in line with the party
farleftlib
(2,125 posts)National Security and immigration are the meat and potatoes of the republican party. All the party unity in the world won't be able to overcome this if it gets any worse.

(19,326 posts)It's a tough one. Hillary's not only got the"email thing" going on into the GE, and no one
really knows what will come out of that. So this is a wild card in the GE deck for Hills.
Hillary lacks a strong pull on Independents, which most agree are vital to winning a GE;
and has low "favorability", "likability" and "trustworthiness" issues. Another notable
drawback is her "enthusiasm gap" with the electorate across-the-board.
Yes, she has lots of relevant experience, but even that is a mixed bag, depending on ones
view of her hawkish foreign policy pattern and how they feel she performed as SoS. And
yes, Hillary's also got tons of great endorsements from Democratic Party stalwarts; which
is a great thing to have.
So bottom line, to answer your question: The only way Hillary can win in the GE is somehow
overcome all or most of the above drawbacks, and gain more momentum into the GE.

(14,733 posts)They're still all set to blame lefties if she wins the primary but loses the general. And that's the important thing, after all - to keep a lefty out of the WH and to avoid ever accepting the responsibility for nominating a crappy centrist candidate, but always to scapegoat someone else.

(16,299 posts)Because it's too politically wonky.
Go and ask a neighbor or a friend about the Clinton server, and they will ask you if they were rude to them or something.

(2,052 posts)But with a Clinton? Swiftboat will look like a cake walk. We are in real trouble here. These Republicans (Trumpites) are absolute savages

(114,904 posts)Hillary Clinton should be indicted, not elected.
See? It's easy to predict how the repukes will frame it. The word server need never be used.
but I still think it's too wonky and it's hardly the worst thing the republican nominee will say about her, they think she should be indicted for murder because Benghazi, which is a lot bigger deal than e-mails.
She is not a perfect candidate but neither is Sanders.

(5,761 posts)I'll be straight up honest, there is no way that the Democratic party is going to nominate a candidate who has a looming FBI investigation over her head because worse case scenario is that if she should win the nomination and gets indicted, we're giving the presidency to a Republican by forfeiture.
Nope, not happening.

(99,710 posts)Against my better judgement I will address your question because I would have to be the most moronic person in the world to believe any minds can be changed here, ever.
The GOPU will dirty up any of our opponents regardless of how stellar their character is.
(they=GOPU)
The last Democratic nominee they didn't really savage is Walter Mondale because there was really no need to. Reagan had a huge lead and kept it.
In 1988 they implied Michael Dukakis was hiding his medical records because he had mental problems and his wife burned the American flag.
In 1992 they tarred Clinton with Whitewater and his philandering
In 1996, see 1992
In 2000 they said Gore was a serial exaggerator who said he invented the internet, claimed him and his wife were the inspiration for Love Story, and discovered the problem at Three Mile Island.
In 2004 they turned a decorated war hero into a caricature who shot himself to get a Purple Heart, and shot a Viet Cong teenage soldier in the back as he ran away.
In 2008 they said Barack Obama was an illegal alien who palled around with terrorists.
In 2012, see 2008.
The Republicans are going to hit us hard but it's not about how hard you hit or get hit but how you you get up and hit back.

(2,052 posts)I get what you are saying. To me, those will pale in comparison to the storm coming. You are not moronic to think minds can change. The onslaught coming, coupled with Trump 24/7 is going to punish us all.
