2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWe are trolls and Moles says the Clinton Group...I beg to differ
I am not a mole or a troll.
I want change from two families who continue to edge their way into the White House as if they are royalty.
I want change from lobbyists (thousands of them) running around OUR halls of Congress to get their wording and their deals into our laws by bribery and blackmail.
I want change from the elites running our country to enlarge their power, greed and ego.
I want term limits on all legislators so they cannot continue their control over us.
I want the average American to have a good life which has been taken away from them by those above. i.e., healthcare for all, decent wages and jobs, good educations, etc.
I want what Bernie Sanders wants. Change with the elimination of corruption and the powerfully rich who know nothing of our struggles. I want them to get out of our buildings and our government.
I am not a mole or a troll. I want justice for all. We the people want the criminal activity to stop and for us to be a nation of the people by the people and for the people.
I am sick of the Clinton/Bush royalty getting into the White House almost every election. Did they think if Obama got in there that many would not remember the dynasties and their cohorts who have reigned for many years. Enough is enough!

(25,699 posts)of course daring to do so would get you banned from the Hillary Clinton group, but hey. could take one for the cause of moderation in rhetoric.

(5,792 posts)ago in the Hillary group a non threatening email. Didn't even know that I was in their group and somebody named Cha banned me. Didn't bother me at all but thought why so touchy that they would ban me for my real non threatening thoughts.
I just noticed a thread this morning that came from their group where they are constantly putting those down who do not believe that Hillary is the best choice. They posted that those who are not in their group are moles and are trolls. This is in rebuttal to that thread and many more of them. What I am saying is not rhetoric, it's my true thoughts on this. No more dynasty that show ended a long time ago.

(25,699 posts)I find it fascinating that Du has a Bernie Sanders group and a Hillary Clinton group, and both groups are all about Bernie Sanders

(5,792 posts)positions and stop doing (except for Bernie he's a rare exception) the peoples work. If someone knows they have a certain amount of time in their job and that the people elected them, I feel they would be more inclined to do the peoples work. What they were elected for. Someone that has been in there for decades are so used to the status quo, the perks, the benefits that they stray from the original reason they were elected...that is to do the peoples work. They become a click of people bribed and blackmailed by the elite, Wall Street and corporations and controlled by them. And then the people who elected them somehow are forgotten. We elect for those elected to do our bidding not the elite's bidding. Term limits would stop that in my opinion.

(4,211 posts)I'm not sure I agree with the set term limit for a number of reasons;
Corporate funded runs,
Perpetual lack of systemic knowledge (brain-drain),
and a lack of accountability.
Having term limits may set up a situation where corporations could more easily buy an election. They could potentially go out and find a sympathetic ear (or wallet), and coach/fund a person into position. The implications from there are many.
Set term limits of either one term or two may mean the luminaries who're familiar with how to do the job, and actually do a very good job, could be swept to the way-side. That might not seem a big deal at first blush, but, generally, those who're knowledgeable end up being a resource for those who aren't quite up-to-speed... which, sadly, is already a substantial portion of politicians.
If term limits were set to either a single term or two terms, those who're inclined to work to serve their own purposes would be free of the public eye within a relatively short period of time. A higher turn-over rate would mean a higher number of corruptible persons in office (look at the tea party "leadership" for an example of what I'm talking about)
Sure, we may be able to sweep away some old corrupt politicians, but shorter term limits allows corporations to send in a bunch of new corrupted persons who would more easily get away with their corruption due, in part, to lack of notoriety. There's a lot of potential unintended consequences to shorter term limits. Not saying it's not the way to go, necessarily, but it's something we'd have to be exceptionally cautious about.
The questions that have to be asked are what would the country really get out of it? How could term limits negatively affect us? Is there a better alternative... say, like requiring 2-4 terms in office before a politician would be eligible for their retirement package? Some food for thought.

Do you have a problem with the idea that one who is one of 120 million ought to have some humility? Because that is what I actually said.

(14,733 posts)In the movie Real Genius (an early Val Kilmer comedy vehicle), there's a scene where his character is taking his new, younger roommate out to party, and is saying 'Moles and trolls, moles and trolls!', referring to all of the people who spend all their time studying, never seeing the light of day. But apparently that's not good enough for youtube, so here, instead, is the 'All brain, no penis' scene.
