What worries me most is if the polls and exit polls show Obama winning handily, but somehow the vote counts gives Rmoney the victory. While I don't think Republicans would go that far, I do know that there are a lot of Tea Party types who actually think this country may be in need of a revolution to protect their special privileges. If those types work for Diebold or other groups, they could try to steal the election regardless of how people vote. I'm not sure what would happen if we were convinced that the election was stolen, but I don't think either side would back down. If Republicans steal the election, I think we could be in for very complicated and dangerous times, especially since the right has been stocking up on arms since 2008.

(326 posts)I think they've done it more than once and they will continue to do it again even if caught. As for "what would happen if we were convinced that the election was stolen," we didn't do anything in 2000 - much to our shame as a so-called democratic nation. When atrocities like this happen elsewhere, the people rise up. Here we seem to bleat and run.

(11,816 posts)We were at a party, and someone blamed the citizens of one of the countries in the news for not rising up against a crappy leader (Iran? Iraq? Syria at the time?)
I said "listen, most of us on the left think the Republicans STOLE the election from Gore. Everyone - right and left - agrees Gore won the election by 500,000 popular votes, and I'm saying that most of us on the left think the right stole Florida, with the help of a right-wing Supreme Court. But did we rise up? No. We did not. So are we any better than the people of that country? No we are not." He was gobsmacked.
I tell you right now: Never Again. If they pull that shit again this year, I will be out in the streets.
