Bernie's Political Revolution Under Way! 191 Bernie Democrats Running For Public Office So Far:

Last edited Fri Feb 26, 2016, 02:50 AM - Edit history (2)

Expats For Bernie has compiled this list of 191 candidates who are running with Bernie for Federal and State Senate and Fed and State Congress.

Justin Bamberg eg, from SC, who has endorsed Bernie. He's a Civil Rights lawyer currently a State Rep. I would love to see him win a seat in Congress. Grivalda, Ellison and so many others. Bernie is going to need a Congress that will work with him.

I think this list is extremely important as we will have to focus on Congress as well as the WH because as Bernie has said, he cannot do it himself.

5. The list was compiled by Expats for Bernie. If you have any questions about any of the candidates, I

can probably answer them. Eg, Tim Canova, a huge Bernie supporter from Florida, is challenging Debbie Wasserman Schultz, first time she's going to be challenged and he's already gathering support. He's a great candidate, with a long consistent record very much like Bernie's on all the important issues.

64. He is an incredible candidate. What a great Chair of the DNC he would make, instantly returning our

Party to the people. Though I know he wouldn't be head of the DNC right away, we can dream. He is gaining momentum, the more we talk about these candidates, make their names household names, donate to those in our own states as much as possible, the better chance they will have. Just found another one who has announced and will put his name in the OP.

for Congress means. I did say 'we can DREAM' right?

Canova has a lot more qualifications for that position that DWS who has LOST 12% of the membership of the Dem Party, now down to only 30% and she lost us the House and Senate. Plus donations to the DNC from ordinary people are way down.

Why was she put in that position when she is obviously destroying the Dem Party? She has supported REPUBLICANS over Dems. Hopefully Canova will defeat her and she might be more comfortable with the people she has actually supported.

130. Add to the list

Phil Cornell (me) running against Sen. Patty Murray in Washington State. Sen. Murray supports the TPP, takes money from corporations who will profit from passage of the TPP, voted for the Iraq war, I could go on. I am a 'yuge' supporter of Bernie, a progressive Democrat running an individual donation funded campaign and a novice to the political scene. I support candidates like Tim Canova and others who, like me, are trying to rescue our democracy from the oligarch's. Adding her name to the list is another Missouri Bernie Democrat running for the Senate in Nov:

https://twitter.com/CoriBush4Senate

She is on the list in the OP as a Bernie Dem

But she is on twitter today so adding her here in the comments to provide her twitter account page so people can learn a little more about her. She has been a member of BLM since Ferguson. Great candidate, very exciting to see her running.

https://twitter.com/CoriBush4Senate

The more people who follow her on Twitter, the more who will get to know her and help her win. I just followed her and hope others will too.

65. 191 seats is damn-near a majority by itself.

Not that all of them will win, I'm not delusional.
But that's potentially a LOT of political Power Transfer for one election, and in a lot of cases, that will translate to vote totals (especially if there's lots of (d)emocratic goodies on local and state ballots).

The potential of that list basically equates to Fuck the Superdelagates, and FEEL THE BERN.

(I'm in Missouri I'll be voting that names list in the Primary)

66. Yes, and more are stepping up every day. This part of the Bernie campaign story doesn't get covered

at all in the media but imo, THIS is why he ran in the first place. Thank you for reading and supporting those on the list. The Missouri list is fantastic, so encouraging to see people like Cori Bush eg, who took the time to thank ME on twitter today for retweeting her posts and for following her.

Anyone who is on Social Media, like Twitter should follow the candidates as it helps spread the word about them to other followers.

To me, whether Bernie wins or not, changing Congress is more important than the WH. IF he wins he will need these kinds of people in Congress. IF he loses we need them even more to stop the Corp agenda that will come from the WH.

Either way THIS is where the PEOPLE'S power is, and I am so grateful to see so many coming forward and joining the Political Revolution.

13. Illinois 2nd District doesn't sound like a revolution

The House seat was won by Robin Kelly in 2014 with 78% of the vote. The "Bernie Political Revolution" candidate, Marcus Lewis, ran as an Independent and got 0.1% of the vote. It would have to be a huuuuge revolution to catch up with and unseat this incumbent.

Democratic Robin Kelly Incumbent 78.5% 160,337
Republican Eric Wallace 21.4% 43,799
Independent Marcus Lewis (Write-in) 0.1% 130

https://ballotpedia.org/Illinois%27_2nd_Congressional_District

BTW, it's not 191 candidates running for Congress, as stated in the OP. Most of the names on the list are running in state races. But that's a good place to begin. If most of them are running as Independents, however, they're not even going to get many of the voters supporting Sanders in the Democratic primary. Local races are much more party bound.

the country. There has been a huge awakening in this country over the past eight months. As for who's running for what, where it says 'state' and 'serving' but without a link, in some of those cases they are running for Congress but the link hasn't been provided yet.

Some are running for the Senate, some of the State Legs are now running for either Senate or Congress. All are Bernie supporters and as such will have a lot of support they might not have had otherwise. 'Congress' = The House and Senate btw.

28. That depends on whether or not the incumbent is a Friend of Rahms. A lot has happened over the

past year, with Rahm hiding evidence in another case of murder by cop. I don't know, don't know the incumbent yet, but as I said, the whole dialogue has changed starting in May 2015 and will continue to change as more and more people learn more and more about our horribly rigged system.

My state now has four great Bernie Dems running and hopefully there will be more. I and everyone I know here will be supporting them because in the end, Congress and the Senate are actually MORE important than the WH.

THIS is why Bernie stepped up, to begin to replace the sold out Reps who are corporate owned, on both sides.

for some unknown reason, even though I have yet to meet anyone who will admit to voting for him in the past 20 years, at least. He's been firmly entrenched in there ever since Mark Begich's dad was killed with Hale Boggs in a 1972 plane crash, wreckage never found. In the election that year, Nick Begich beat him even though he had been missing and presumed dead for three weeks. Don won in a special election in March of 1973 and has been there ever since, embarrassing thinking Alaskans on a fairly regular basis. At almost 83, though, he can't last too much longer.

60. True, but....

The problem with the folks here is that most represent the extreme of the party. And so any Dem that is not a socialist looks like they are spineless to those folks, and therefore attacked. In such a way, I might add, that you can never build coalitions within the party, and therefore you don't get s seat at the table. It's fundamental to every system of politics in the world.

I think what you really need to understand is that only 25% of Dem voters consider themselves "extremely or very liberal." So if you want to be heard you have to not attack the other 75%. They will just tune it out.

confidence to run without fear that their opponents both Dems and Repubs, funded by Wall St, the Kochs et al, can beat them on money alone.

How much of the money Hillary 'raised' for dems came from Corporations? And given that, those Dems she's 'helping', who will they be beholden to? I think we know the answers to those questions.

A Political revolution is underway and your question shows your lack of understanding of what millions are now beginning to understand and are acting accordingly.

88. That is a great idea. There are some fantastic candidates among those listed and they should be

getting a lot of attention right now. Maybe State by STate so activists in each state can promote them as they are working for Bernie.

Eg, in Missouri, there are several wonderful Bernie Dems running there. And some great Bernie groups working hard for Bernie They could include the Missouri Bernie Dems in their literature and posters etc so the become familiar to the voters.

The list was done because people were asking who the Bernie Dems were. Many of them announce on Social Media so people see their names then can't find them again.

So this list is a good start and I'm sure there will be more.

But a website dedicated to Bernie Dems does sound like a great idea.

70. That's what they said about Bernie, but they weren't counting on the PEOPLE were they? As for

what they are running for, this is just the first draft of the list of people running on Bernie's platform to try to keep up with the number of people stepping forward. Details will be filled in and more names added. This is what Bernie is running for and why we support him.

Shocked you are not excited about all these Democrats, see eg, the SC Dems For Bernie, what a fantastic group they are, running for Public Office.

I am just thrilled.

71. Why am I not excited about all these Democrats? Many of them are state Reps and Senators who....

....are challenging effective Democrats currently in the Congress.

I'm excited about Democrats, especially those already in office who have proven they could defeat their republican opponents in general elections.

Also, I didn't do a count but there are many who are NOT Democrats - some are independents and some are members of the Green Party.

72. They are challenging Corporate Dems. Like Tim Canova eg, who is challenging Debbie Wasserman Schultz

And in Missouri, challenging those who have not represented the AA community there, like Cori Bush, a fantastic candidate who just announced. It was a Dem Gov in that state who sent out the NG against peaceful protesters in Ferguson, not a Repub.

Just because there is a D after someone's name doesn't mean they are not corporate owned and that is what this campaign is all about, getting the corrosive money out of our system so that we the people, not Corporations, are represented by Congress

114. Unfortunately "Corporate Dems" has become a catch-all phrase for Democratic candidates.....

...that Democrats don't choose to support.

Many on that list are already in office, but lower office - i.e., state representatives and state senators (I have me a few of them, in fact)

So, how does one separate a state legislator from a federal legislator with respect to being a "corporate dem"?

115. No, it's an accurate description of politicians who take Corporate Money and then are influenced, as

we have documented, to vote for what benefits their donors over the needs of the people who elected them. There is no DOUBT AT ALL about what a Corporate Dem is.

And that is why more and more Americans are stepping forward encouraged by Bernie Sanders Principled stand AGAINST the corrupt influence of Corporate money on our government, to run for office and REPLACE those who are being bribed by Corporations.

It's not a secret, not something you can hide, it is THE Issue of this campaign, finally putting it front and center as Biden said recently, 'because until we solve that problem, NOTHING ELSE can be fixed'.

81. No, some are already serving on State Legislatures and planning to run for Congress. The list

isn't complete but was put together because people want to support Bernie Dems and were having a hard time keeping up with those who were announcing their candidacies. But some will probably remain in local legislatures and more are planning to run for local office, also supporting Sanders.

Iow, while Establishment Dems are going with the Establishment candidate, more and more Dems are running with Bernie on the same platform.

because he knows how the game is played and wants to do his best for his constituents back home. For that reason, he has probably either endorsed Clinton or has resisted the pressure to endorse her, but will remain silent.

I don't know how anyone can be proud of endorsements obtained through pressure, but I shrug off that shet.

107. What we are learning from this campaign is how cowardly even those we thought were

on the side of the people, really are. And it was necessary to learn that. We do not need or want anyone who is so easily manipulated that they will go along to protect their own careers. That is exactly what we needed to find out.

Ellison and Grivalda, eg, had the courage to stand up and do what they knew was the right thing to do. THAT makes them LEADERS, not followers.

And if ever a country was in need of leadership, this one is right now.

the benefit of the constituents of his district and of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

And, he and Lynch did speak out after the midterms to point out what Democrats were doing wasn't working and maybe they should try something else. It was a good pairing for that task because Capuano is probably the most liberal member of the Mass delegation, while Lynch is among the more conservative ones.

I am not exonerating anyone completely, but I blame those exerting the pressure to go Stepford for Hillary more than I blame someone like Capuano.

112. I guess right now I want to see people standing up regardless of why they do not. Bernie stepped up

putting himself out there, knowing how rotten and unethical they are and what a risk to his own reputation considering the millions he knew they would spend to discredit him. He has set the standard and so far I see few willing to join him, most either rushing to show their 'loyalty' to the establishment or remaining silent.

This isn't the time to remain silent imo. We may not get a chance like this again in our lifetimes if the Corporate powers currently controlling our country, prevail.

He NEEDS them now. WE need them now. So either stand up as Ellison and Grivalda have or frankly, I won't be rushing to support any of them when they come asking.

As MLK said, 'in the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends'

79. I'm going to offer some advice that you're not going to want to take...

...first, if you want to work for any of these candidates' campaigns, knock yourself out...

...but second, if you are thinking for a minute about contributing money, think long and hard. A handful are serious candidates; most are not. If you want to spend your available cash to "send a message", great, but ask yourself which serious campaign (including Bernie's) could that money have gone to instead?

nb - this has nothing to do with my ideology. I support about 50 campaigns a year, whether the candidates are liberal or moderate. The key question is: can they win? I'm good a evaluating candidates' prospects, and most of these look like flukes.

85. Well, that's what we were told about Bernie, that he would be gone by the end of the Summer,

I don't expect all of them to win, and there will be more of course, just found another one today who has announced. Take the Mid Terms eg, we supported ONLY progressives, no more Third Wayers will get any support from the base who are sick and tired of watching them vote with Repubs on major issues.

What happened? Turnout was so low during those midterms, the Party should ask itself why. But progressives went out to KEEP the Progressives and succeeded for the most part, while most of the Third Way were unable to get the support they needed. I call THEM 'flukes'.

Not to mention voters focused on local elections, seeing how DC doesn't much care about them they decided, across the country to get their issues on LOCAL ballots and succeeded across the country.

A political movement takes time, but apparently the DNC didn't notice, it started when they refused to provide candidates the base could have supported. Bernie is just the next step and has done so well BECAUSE of the mood of the voters who no longer care what the party wants, because it is so out of touch with them, see Hillary eg.

The Dem party has lost 12% of its registered members since 2008. Did you ever ask why?

They are only coming back, some of them, to vote for Bernie.

Iow, Hillary's numbers among Dems, now tied nationally with Bernie and in some polls he's now ahead of her, make up only about 15% of what she will need to win the GE. He is doing better than she against the Repubs.

I do not think Bernie will win SC, but he has already closed the gap there and with more time he could have. But that won't matter as he goes forward and his campaign focuses on Delegates.

Country is changing. There are some great candidates on that list, and some will win. And next election more will win, until the Dem Party once again begins to represent the PEOPLE.

No one expects it to happen overnight, it took decades to take it away from the people and put it in the hands of the Third Way.

a lot of deceit running around these days, if a candidate's page talks about market solutions for minimum wage and market solutions for health care and talks about reducing the size government and mentions charter schools and limits on this and limits on that and being tough of crime. They are not liberal. So please everyone look your local candidates over carefully. We know we can't trust someone just because they carry the Democratic Brand.

The conservative take over of the Democratic Party began with that DLC back in 1985 morphed into Democracy Alliance and now there is The Third way. Think tanks that were once liberal are now all compromised, and all it took was money to take over the message. For the think tanks, check to see what they say about the minimum wage and labor and immigration, education, both K-12 and college. Check for tax positions, and Justice reform.

Run hard and fast from any who are promoting that libertarian originated Basic Income and one party nonsense.

I was hoping you would add Chuck Norris to your list. (This is not a joke, he is a real candidate who wants to aggressively fight climate change.) You can check out his website here: cnorris4cd1.org; fb/twitter: @cnorris4cd1.

Furthermore, he not only endorses Bernie Sanders, but has been in the race since November 2014 after the last Congressional election.

If you have any questions, please give Chuck a call (his number is on his website.) If he doesn't answer today, it's because he's knocking doors, but I'm sure he'll be quick to return your call.
