2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWow...the entire South now thrown under the bus
Can the bus get any bigger?
And seriously, some of the comments about the South are exactly what I expect from Trump: bunch of uneducated people voting against their interests?

On Sun Feb 28, 2016, 02:54 PM an alert was sent on the following post:
If the shoe fits....
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=1365264
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
So the 'entire south' is a bunch of uneducated people voting against their own interest? This comment is promoting that broad brush statement. This is rude and damn inappropriate throwing the entire south under the bus. Not all of them are 'uneducated' and they decide their own best interests. Please hide this filthy broadbrush from the eyes of our EDCUATED southern duers. It is bigotry.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Feb 28, 2016, 03:03 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It's simply one poster's response to the original poster's slog through the old bus stuff. They are both annoying but perfectly within their rights to post their opinions.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Rude, but consistent with the tone and tenor of GDP currently.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: tired of broad brush stereotyping and attacks
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: The regional bashing is disgusting and needs to stop. Now.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This has pretty much been the MO on DU for years re: the entire US outside of the Northeast and Hollywood. Not sure why we're just now after all these years deciding these kinds of remarks are offensive.
No reason to change it now.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(26,549 posts)Guess you were using the wrong account when you made your post about how it's OK for Sanders to ignore the South? It was rather surprising that you would make such a (now deleted) post.

tarheelsunc
(2,117 posts)Delegates are allotted to states based on how many people voted Democrat in each state in the most recent election. Just because most southern states tend to vote Democrat doesn't mean there aren't Democrats in those states. Or would you rather disenfranchise those who are unfortunate enough to live in a red state?

(2,117 posts)There are millions of Democratic voters in the South. Why should their votes not matter just because other people in their states vote Republican?

(2,117 posts)The South has AT LEAST as much right as any other region to play a part in the primary process. The hatred towards Democrats from the South on this board is appalling.

(26,549 posts)Not literally 3/5ths, but the formula for delegates considers past general election results. Southern states get fewer delegates per person at the convention, because they vote for Republicans in the general.
For example, South Carolina has voted for a Democrat once since 1964. Apparently Ford picked up too much Nixon stink.
States that vote for Democrats in the general election get more delegates, on the assumption that a candidate that appeals mostly to states we will lose in November is not a good plan.

And Clinton performed best in the most Democratic areas, so that suggests that something different is afoot. Sanders didn't even perform well in areas where there are white liberals.
There is nothing more annoying than people who try to talk politics and know nothing about political geography, demographics or anything of the like.

(12,689 posts)That post irritated me so much that I posted first instead of best. You highlight another good point that Sanders best counties in Nevada were the more conservative ones. It will be interesting to see the maps on Super Tuesday and where the patterns are.
jmowreader
(50,523 posts)The problem there is, I ran the numbers and if Candidate A takes EVERY county in Nevada instead of Clark, and Candidate B takes only Clark, Candidate B wins because three of four Nevada residents live in Clark County.

(26,549 posts)SC has voted for a Democratic president once since 1964. Ford apparently picked up too much Nixon stink. So SC is not going to be delivering any electoral votes in November.
No electoral college for Congress and below, so they could, and do, deliver Democrats to those offices.

And it does not change the fact that Clinton can not win NC. There's no way she will excite enough urban voters to overcome the rural voters.

(8,546 posts)I've been here since 03. The South, and Southerners in general, have been trashed and dissed around here more than any other group except republicans. There have been fucking flamewars over it. So revising history to blame it all on Bernie supporters doesn't cut it, ya dig? There are plenty of Hillary supporters who were right up on the front lines with the South bashing. And now they want to look like butter won't melt in their mouth. Well bless their fucking hearts, this Southern Bernie supporter knows better.

(5,275 posts)doesn't include Florida or Texas...just ask citizens of any of the involved states...
and, worse for Dems...the GE ain't the primaries...there is no proportional division of electoral votes...
could be, I guess, if you could convince, bribe, whatever some electoral college electors to vote opposite of their state's results...of course, you would have to find them jobs, housing in another state, new identities, etc.
