(32,324 posts)Of course we really should not be laughing - it was Hillary's buddy Jim Carville that convinced Kerry to shut up and concede the day after the 2004 election.
And thus the people of the USA got another four years of George Porgie.

This is a blaring example of the hypocrisy that runs rampant in the camp weathervane supporters. I swear, you all would follow her no matter what she did. A lot like Trump supporters.

(2,211 posts)I went into this election thinking that I prefer Sanders but would vote for whoever won the democratic nomination. I'm rethinking that stand given the dirty tricks going on. For the first time since I was eligible to vote (more than 40 years ago), I may sit out the election if Clinton wins.
This type of behavior is intolerable to me.

Wonder why he picked a state where the vote was so, so, so close? Just like Florida in 2000.
onenote
(42,688 posts)Doesn't seem like a particularly effective strategy for influencing the outcome.
That said, no one should have been electioneering within 150 feet of the polling place (which includes that person holding up the "Bankers for Hillary" sign, although I haven't seen too many calls for that person to be charged with a crime.
senz
(11,945 posts)As for the person with the Bankers sign, that person did not tie up traffic and block access to the polling place, did they? That person did not affect the outcome. Furthermore that person only joined the big party-like crowd while the polling place was closed for Bill Clinton. They were displaying their sign as a message to Bill Clinton.
You are telling me all I need to know about you when you have the nerve to compare that person and their little sign with Bill Clinton, a former president who went to FOUR different MA polling places for the purpose of holding up the voting process for hours.
I am glad MY candidate is honest and honorable.
onenote
(42,688 posts)Unless you can show that a significant number of voters were prevented from voting and that the areas where this occurred preferred Sanders over Clinton the idea that lower turnout favored Clinton makes no sense. In an area where Clinton was the preferred candidate, having fewer voters reach the polls hurt her. Thus, for example, one of the Towns where the appearance of Bill Clinton at the polling place is said to have delayed voting is New Bedford. New Bedford went to Clinton by 54.4 -44.3. Which means that there is no reason to think if one hundred voters were somehow denied their right to vote than it did anything other than cost Clinton 54 votes and Sanders 44. Another one of his stops was in Newton, where Clinton got 63 percent of the vote. Again, logic would indicate that if his appearance there prevented voters from voting, it hurt Clinton more than Sanders.
As for whether Clinton's appearance was appropriate, I don't think it was. But excuse me for thinking that it also wasn't appropriate for someone to hold up a sign within 150 feet of the polling place promoting or opposing a particular candidate.
senz
(11,945 posts)I don't care if you consider that "logical" or not. The fact that a crime didn't have a particular effect does not make it any less a crime. If a thief steals your purse, it's doesn't matter whether or not your wallet was in the purse; it's still theft.
Again, I'm glad MY candidate is honest and honorable.
onenote
(42,688 posts)Again, I said it wasn't appropriate. I also disputed suggestions, including yours, that it specifically targeted one candidate. You can't rebut the latter and you've ignored my comment on the former.
ellennelle
(614 posts)don't get your shorts in a wad; that was a play on bill's now infamous 'it's the economy, stupid,' which now seems pretty...ironic?
the simple logic is that hillary pulls older, richer voters who can afford to take all that time to vote.
bernie, on the other hand, pulls the youth and blue collar voters who cannot take the time, for working or classes or studying.
that is the karl rove logic, and it has worked like a champ for quite some time.
evidently bill was counting on ...something like that.
and, in doing your math, don't forget that this was not about 'winning' states or precincts or towns. because the delegates are proportionally distributed, every won or lost vote translates into delegates overall.
capisce?
onenote
(42,688 posts)Keep your panties on; that was a play on bill's now famous 'it's the economy stupid" which actually was a pretty smart political position. No irony.
But go ahead and explain how the poster I was responding to claimed first that the bill's act specifically hurt Bernie and then essentially pretended not to have claimed that.
I have repeatedly said what Bill did wasn't appropriate. But those that are making it out to have been specifically designed to hurt Bernie are full of crap.
And your logic doesn't hold. If the vote total in an area split 60/40 for Clinton and a hundred people didn't get to vote, there is no logical basis for assuming anything other than Clinton losing 60 votes statewide and Bernie losing 40. And since Clinton won the state by less than a 60/40 margin, that would hurt her delegate total not his.
ellennelle
(614 posts)please forgive me, i sincerely do not mean to condescend or offend, but you apparently need this explained to you?
he went, with the boston mayor i emphasize, to FOUR different polling places, hanging up the process for SEVERAL HOURS at each location.
are you too young to recall OH in 04? people - esp. those who must work for a living or be in classes - cannot stand around for hours to vote. so, they leave. they DO NOT VOTE!!
this is, as others here have pointed out, a KARL ROVE STRATEGY.
in addition, the point that should be crystal clear is that what bill did yesterday is AGAINST THE LAW. and he knows it.
he waltzed right up to the letter of the law and thumbed his nose at the spirit of it, which is to avoid influencing the votes of voters. (the letter is hardly different.)
why is this so hard to grasp? this is what we should all be insisting on, that each and every one of us gets held to the same standards, no elite exceptions.
when i voted yesterday, i was asked to remove my button, and my buddy was asked to remove his cap. no problem.
IT'S THE LAW!!
i do hope this helps.
onenote
(42,688 posts)The authorities have indicated it wasn't.
But whether it was or wasn't illegal, you've yet to explain precisely what actual impact it had on the results of the primary.
If it was illegal it was illegal whether or not it had any impact (which is why the sign holder in the picture also also was probably violating the law).
The law doesn't require there to be any showing of harm. Just an act falling within the letter of the law.
But some here seem intent of claiming that one particular candidate was harmed despite the absent of any actual or logical evidence that was the case. It's a gratuitous claim unnecessary to the issue of whether the law was broken.

(58,348 posts)It pays to have Clinton privilege.
Bernie Sanders backers were seen standing near the same polling location Bill Clinton visited in Massachusetts Tuesday.
The unwashed masses were ordered to campaign farther away from the voting center while the former president glad handed for his wife, Hillary Clinton.
(snip)
Massachusetts state law forbids electioneering with 150 feet of a polling location.
The Bernie Sanders supporters appear to have been correctly told to move away from the voting center.
But Bill? He has Clinton Privilege.
