(2,052 posts)Been on the train my whole life. Still here. Threatening to look for the most progressive candidate that matches my belief system. My Democratic values do not align with centrists, no matter how popular in the polls that makes a candidate. I am hoping there will be a progressive option in November available

She's trying to sound more like Bernie Sanders in the primary, but in the General she'll revert to form.

(17,064 posts)GenXers are a distant third. Dems have the opportunity to secure the votes of 80% of an entire generation. Passing that up will prove to be the biggest political blunder in a very long time.

whatchamacallit
(15,558 posts)but I now see the party as corrupted and subverted by monied interests, just like the republicans. I don't feel I owe them loyalty because they obviously don't show any to left, so fuck 'em.
casperthegm
(643 posts)Well said. A candidate should be expected to earn a vote, not expect it simply because of party loyalty. The expectation at DU and overall seems to be that we follow like good little sheep. If we have issues with the record of a candidate who happens to be under investigation, won't release her transcripts, and takes Wall Street money, I don't think it's unreasonable to explore all reasonable candidates who share our general democratic views.

You do your candidate no good insulting long time dem party members that have towed the line, and are tired of voting lock step against their interests and beliefs because she wants to drag us further right. And for the record, she will need every Indie and green vote to win. Indies are the largest voting block in the country.

(10,493 posts)That is what rhetoric posts like this are doing.
I've been a registered voter for 23 years. I never met a Green, but I know many independents/closet liberals that no longer relate to the party for some of the reasons I shared above. I know other Indies that don't want to identify because they have their set beliefs and it's easier to deflect from the nonsense in what has become a tit for tat, my way or else, political environment. I think our party leaders need to wake up and examine themselves as to why we are losing seats and voters. After this round, I'm not sure I want to identify as a democrat - but it won't be because I left my party, my party left me a long time ago.

Now, "Proud Democrat" no more. Blinders are off.
I'll be jumping off the train wreck, too. Probably land with the Green Party. They're more in line with FDR than this corporate bought & paid for party anyways. They back a corrupt candidate, & sabotage the only decent one running? Says it all.
I'd like to see MoveOn & DFA & Working Families Party start a new party. Pull the Greens in.
I think it would be a tremendous success.
Just dreaming now...
