How Hillary Clinton’s Vote Against Clean Water Regulations Could Cost Her Michigan

http://usuncut.com/news/hillary-clinton-groundwater-pollution/

As the Michigan primary approaches, Hillary Clinton has been making sure to tout her efforts to help Flint. But her record tells a different story.

In 2005, while she was running for re-election as New York’s U.S. Senator, Clinton voted against a measure to ban the manufacturing of a known carcinogen that had affected drinking water supplies for millions of Americans. A chemical called methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), which is an additive that makes fuel burn cleaner, had found its way into 31 states’ drinking water wells by 2000. Three years later, the Environmental Working Group estimated that some 15 million Americans were drinking water contaminated with MTBE. Amid this news, seventeen states filed a class-action lawsuit against the makers of MTBE.

As International Business Times reported, one of the manufacturers of MTBE was ExxonMobil, a major supporter of the Clinton Foundation. In 2005, Senator Pete Domenici (R-New Mexico) introduced an amendment to a sweeping energy policy bill that would have banned the use of MTBE. While the amendment passed overwhelmingly with 70 votes in favor and 26 opposing, Hillary Clinton joined 14 Republicans and 11 Democrats in voting against the measure. According to OpenSecrets.org, Clinton raised over $74,000 from the oil and gas industry for her 2006 re-election effort. To date, ExxonMobil has given roughly $1 million to the Clinton Foundation....

While Hillary Clinton expressed concerns over the use of MTBE, she still nonetheless voted against the final bill that included language discouraging the use of the toxic chemical. While MTBE was phased out of gasoline products in the last ten years, International Business times recently reported that there are new outbreaks of MTBE contamination in Connecticut, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

4. I'm not sure it was the same bill

This was in the House. Hillary never served in the House, she was in the Senate and after it passes both the House and the Senate it goes to conference where it may be changed. So even if both voted for it, it might not have been the same bill.

Wyden's my Senator, too. Between this and his shilling for the TPP, he won't get my vote again.

8. If they have children poisoned by MTBE,

then I'm sure you would be correct. They don't, they have lead in their water, which everyone knew was extremely toxic to children. Some pollutants are much more dangerous than others.

9. This was already posted earlier in the day, but that bill had absolutely nothing to do with....

...the issues in Flint, and everyone in Michigan knows what caused the problems.

The fact is that the water coming out of the river was clean. It was corrosion of the lead pipes that cause the poisoning of the water. That was because the state scrimped on an additive that would have prevented the water from corroding the pipes.

The water WAS clean and still IS clean, and there is absolutely NO MTBE in the drinking water of Flint.

Yet another scandal that doesn't exist.

this is about CLEAN WATER regardless of w-h-i-c-h poison and let's just say this is about calling yourself PROGRESSIVE. To bring you up to speed, Clinton is NOT progressive. It's a lie when she says she is. Hope we're on the same page now.

17. In that case, "let's just say" that the OP is incorrect by trying to tie that 10-year old vote....

....to the current problem in Flint. I don't see anyone acknowledging that, and perhaps your issue about clean water deserves its own OP and discussion.

Its disingenuous to take one issue and try to project it onto another issue totally unrelated to it.

The bottom line is that the legislation in question has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE POISONOUS WATER IN FLINT!

16. Not only are MTBE fumes bad, sickening gas station attendants, but 25 cents more w/8% less MPG

.

NJ does not have self-serve pumps and the gas station workers were getting sick from the fumes.

So you had to buy more gasoline, and MTBE inflated the cost of gasoline by 25 cents per gallon.

This was a boon for ExxonMobile, as citizen expense.
