Major Florida newspaper endorses Hillary Clinton in democratic primary, endorses no republican

Just ten days before the democratic and republican primaries are set to take place in Florida, one of the state’s most popular and influential newspapers has officially spoken in both races. On the democratic side, the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel is endorsing Hillary Clinton, because she’s “telling voters what they need to hear, not what they want to hear.” But on the republican side, the newspaper is taking the unusual primary season step of refusing to endorse any of the bunch.

In an Editorial Board piece titled “Why we can’t endorse Trump, Rubio, Cruz or Kasich,” the Sun-Sentinel makes the case against all four of them. Donald Trump “lacks the experience and temperament to be president.” Marco Rubio, the home-state senator and native son of nearby Miami, “lacks the experience, work ethic and gravitas needed to be president.” As for tea party extremist Ted Cruz? He “scares us.” And as for John Kasich, “we can’t urge you to vote for someone who doesn’t have a chance of winning the nomination.” It’s a wholesale rejection of the entire republican slate.
