changes any of the rightward tilt of the Democratic Party in terms of financial and environmental regulations, trade, labor issues, privatization, social security and safety net issues, or not? Or do you see them still seeking deals that Republicans will control ideologically?

(7,830 posts)says Obama only talked against outsourcing because he was running for re-election & during a presidential election, you say things you don't mean~
First Clinton1, then Obama, ran as progressives and were "centrists" in office. How long will this charade keep going?

(7,830 posts)They capitulate to republican policies and claim they had no choice & how it really will be good for the country & how important it is to do something rather than nothing.
My whole life, that's all I've seen from Democratic presidents. They say the right things while running then its forgotten in office, except for the spin they put on their right wing ways.
I'd like to see a traditional FDR Democrat in the oval office. See what could really get done for our country.

(384 posts)but they're voting for a right-winger and that's what they'll get. (Although that'll most likely be Trump because he will destroy HRC in the general).
The best we can hope for then is beating Trump in 2020 with an actual Democrat.

(10,493 posts)There's already an article out about her insiders upset that Bernie is delaying her from appealing to Republicans. Her message should be universal, not me too.

(19,841 posts)--that line only of thinking works for getting her elected.
Doesn't work that way any more when you're on the wrong side of big money ideologically.

(10,164 posts)...it may well cause the rise of a viable alternative that's actually a liberal party.
I don't expect any significant shift back to the left to occur. The corporate control of the party's leadership is essentially unbreakable, and this primary is showing me that the party has a lot of voters who are more concerned with having the president wear the party brand than actually promote progressive policies in several utterly critical areas. The party has largely abandoned progressivism, and while that decision has alienated a big chunk of liberal voters, it's clearly no big deal to a very big group of moderates and brand loyalists.
