Chelsea Clinton can't bring herself to care about money

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-politics/10902554/Chelsea-Clinton-interview-I-will-always-work-harder-than-anyone.html

<“I’ve tried really hard to care about things that were very different from my parents. I was curious if I could care about money on some fundamental level, and I couldn’t. That wasn’t the metric of success I wanted in my life.>

Is she saying that money is the metric of success for her parents given that is where she chose to draw the contrast between herself and her parents?

The funny thing is Chelsea talking about how she just can't care about money. NBC paid her $600,000 for a little bit of work. IAC pays her $300,000 plus stock options to sit on a corporate board. She and her hedge fund husband recently moved from a $4 million New York City residence to a $10 million New York City residence.

I guess you don't need to care about money when you know it will always fall in your lap.

I'm in the top 20% of wage earners in the US (around 60K) but have no appreciable wealth.

Wealth is what the parasites want, not wages. I haven't been asked to sit on any board or even shake a hand. The grip of the really wealthy on this planet is absolutely scary. And these people have no more intelligence than anyone else - in fact they are tainted by their golden bubbles.

I'm sure Chelsea means very well when she says that she doesn't care about money--I really believe that. Which is what makes her so utterly clueless. It's not her fault, but she's still wrong.

I think she honestly doesn't realize that not caring about money is a luxury that only those who will always be secure can have. It's probably the greatest luxury of all, and (except for monks and nuns who renounce worldly goods but at least know they'll always have a roof over their head) you need a lot of money to have it.

When she's had to face these and the many money problems the average working class person has to face, then she can say that. I don't think she's ever had to worry about money. No, she's saying that money is NOT her parent's metric of success, therefore she tried to care about it to be different. While certainly tone deaf, the truly inane part of her comments is trying to suggest that her parents don't care about money...Laughable and inane.

And, hello DU. I've lurked here for years and never felt a need to join since usually, someone says what I'm thinking anyway. This time, I had to speak up. Let's not miss an important point here: In ostensibly talking about herself, Chelsea is promoting yet more Clinton mythology: Bill and Hillary are just plain folk to whom money means nothing.
