Related: About this forumHillary nailed Bernie on the auto bailout.
That's Michigan's biggest issue and Bernie voted against the bill that saved the MI auto industry. That is likely the main thing most MI voters watching this will take away from this debate.
Hillary wins.

(9,314 posts)(Host) Vermont's two U.S. Senators, Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders, say they're reluctantly supporting a $15 billion rescue package for the nation's auto industry.
Both senators say that allowing Ford, General Motors or Chrylser to fall into bankruptcy could affect a lot of auto related jobs in Vermont.

Senator Bernie Sanders voted against the $700 billion bail out of the financial services industry but he says this package is different:
(Sanders) "The problem is if you don't act in the midst of a growing recession what does it mean to create a situation where millions of more people become unemployed and that could spread and I have serious concerns about that I think it would be a terrible idea to add millions more to the unemployment rolls."

(24,689 posts)IMO.
The funds to bail out Detroit were actually "siphoned" out of the TARP funds. Eventually, loans were established and a lot of the money was paid back. Wall Street didn't pay back a dime.

(4,775 posts)Bernie was absoutely in favor of, and voted for, the auto bailout. The bill you speak of was the larger bailout bill, of which a small part was the auto bailout.
DCBob
(24,689 posts)The bill Bernie supported would have been too late.

(4,775 posts)like they gave to the large banks, in addition to TARP? The FED did this. The auto manufacturers had morphed into financial institutions as much as they were car companies, something that needs wider attention.

(9,289 posts)In December of 2008, Bernie voted for the first auto bailout bill, the one that died in the Senate. He voted against the big bailout bill that included an auto bailout the next year.
DCBob
(24,689 posts)which contained provisions for the auto industry. Bernie voted against that.
