Related: About this forumThank you George W. Bush for saving our economy!
Who could have guessed that this would be a rallying cry of the Clinton campaign in 2016?

(11,101 posts)Not supporting George Bush's Wall Street bailout was was a horrible mistake by Bernie Sanders. We are just lucky that she was wise enough to recognize the wisdom and leadership of George W. Bush and follow his lead.

Please send me some of what you have been smoking, drinking, eating, whatever. It creates wonderful delusions!
Thank you!

(2,074 posts)1. He extended Daylight Savings time. I love it, so I consider that his greatest achievement.
2. And he bailed out the banks, undeserving as they were, against much Republican sentiment, because the economy was in free fall. That does not mean that he saved the economy: it took Barack Obama's wise management to do that.
But however you want to spin this. I've come to expect such hysterical statements from the Bernie camp.

(814 posts)The way it was written was a blank check and it was unacceptable.
Most people who knew about the bank bailout were screaming "no!" and calling in droves for it to be rejected in the current state. For Republicans, it was truly how the Tea Party came to be created NOT the astro-turf we have seen as of the last few years.

(1,235 posts)the banks took the money and did three things with it.
1 - paid themselves large bonuses
2 - paid off some old loans they had that had higher interest rates
3 - hoarded it in their vaults and refused to loan it out to people and small businesses, which was what it was suppose to be used for.
So, I don't see how hundreds of billions of dollars sitting unused in bank vaults could possibly have done anything to save the economy.
The economy slowly recovered over several years without any help from the bailout.
If one had any kind of memory, was paying the least bit of attention, and were honest about it, that would have been obvious.
