2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGive a little thought to what a GOP campaign against Bernie Sanders might look like
http://www.vox.com/2016/2/3/10903404/gop-campaign-against-sandersWhen Sanders supporters discuss these attacks (from HRC campaign), though, they do so in tones of barely contained outrage, as though it is simply disgusting what they have to put up with. Questioning the practical achievability of single-payer health care. Impugning the broad electoral appeal of socialism. Is nothing sacred?
But c'mon. This stuff is patty-cakes compared with the brutalization he would face at the hands of the right in a general election.
~~
~~
They're going to ask struggling middle-class workers how they feel about a trillion dollars in new taxes to fund a grand socialist scheme to take away everyone's health care insurance and hand them over to government doctors.
They're going to ask when he stopped being a communist, and when he objects that he was never a communist they're going to ask why he's so defensive about his communist past, why he's so eager to avoid the questions that have been raised, the questions that people are talking about.
And when Sanders and his supporters splutter that it's inaccurate and unjust and outrageous, the right will not give a single fuck.

We've already seen how good the GOP are at waging a McCarthyist campaign in their very successful effort at demonizing Hillary Clinton. You have to look no further than most of Sanders supporters posts which recite with complete credulity GOP propaganda that Hillary is obviously guilty of heinous crimes with emails, is necessarily corrupt because she has accepted donations from Wall Street (~3% of her campaign donations) and corporations (it's so obvious no evidence of wrongdoing or favoritism is needed to pronounce her guilt!). Imagine what they could do with Sen. Sanders the avowed Socialist. The GOP will have people believing Bernie will build a Kremlin on the Potomac and confiscate everybody's assets - that pick-up truck ... with the foundation block supports!.
Imagine, if you can stand it, his excrescence, The Donald in the White House.

(218 posts)up to that shit for a couple of decades. I stated in OP that Bernie supporters have swallowed whole the GOP's McCArthyist attacks on Hillary.

(39,215 posts)has gotten her. Take a look at her favored ratings and the polls asking about her trustworthiness. She is starting out on a bottom rung already.
Not to mention real reasons to be against her: welfare "reform", repeal of Glass-Steagall, and a whole lot of other reasons that those of us who were there in the 90s still remember.
As to your description of Bernie's program: I think a lot of middle-class workers would much rather see the rich pay some taxes than continue to have social programs cut.
As to taking medical programs away? Really? We already have a very good government health care structure that we can build on so that everyone can be covered. The only people in danger of change in the health care system are the for profit insurance providers.
As to taking doctors away - we already have medicare for most of us and no one has told me what doctor I can go to.
Unlike Hillary, Bernie is very good at explaining the issues and you can see just how good she is at trying to tell the kind of lies the rw are going to tell. He keeps to the issues instead of getting down in the mud with them.

(218 posts)Whatever partial success the GOP propagandist have had with demonizing Clinton(outside their own group of partisans their main success has been with Sanders supporters. But how many people claiming to be Sanders supporters are GOPers 'for' Bernie?), they will be much more succussful with Sanders since Sanders has said he is a socialist (GOPers don't care if he said "democratic socialist" they will only hear 'socialist'. Clinton is far better known than Bernie, so there are millions of people who use their own judgement to dismiss GOP propaganda against Clinton as bullshit via innuendo, implications without evidence. Bernie, not being so well known, the GOP can be more successful in telling people who won't/can't think for themselves (through insinuation and suggestion) what to believe about Bernie. The GOP will make those who won't think for themselves believing Berinie will build a Kremlin on the Hudson and confiscate all their wealth (e.g. that pickup truck along with the foundation block supports).
This is why one GOP Pol said: "We'll win every state if Sanders is their nominee."
Hillary's on the bottom rung?? REALITY check: Clinton has won quite a few delegates - that means Democrats aren't buying the GOP's message. Even with Sanders supporters parroting GOP propaganda, more people are going to realize without evidence accusations and innuendo are not facts. I think more and more people who are capable of thinking for themselves will start to get involved as election day nears.

(3,660 posts)Sheesh.
And you're equating red-baiting nonsense to having an active ongoing FBI investigation, and many other scandals (some smear jobs, some not so much). They have much more ammo to use against someone as corrupt as Hillary.

I don't think The Donald will make it to the end, though--they'll find some way of bigfooting him out of there.

(22,308 posts)No biggie.
Attacks hurt both sides and Bernie's net favorable rating is the highest of any candidate. Far ahead of anyone but Kasich and odds are he won't be the nominee.
Bring it on.
Compared to what Hillary would go through, this is softball.

Bernie would tear that fool to pieces. All has had to face so far is a couple of lightweights. Let Trump defend his "security needs overrule the Constitution".
