She's nothing if not predictable, and depressing.

(10,362 posts)Stop praising Cuba, Bernie. I don't care if it's true, it sounds bad.

(57,936 posts)As someone pointed out, we trade with China, a totally Communist country insofar as its government is concerned.
Communism is a threat we can deal with.
Nowadays the big threat everyone is afraid of is terrorism, especially Muslim terrorism.
More Americans are killed in a year by our homegrown angry, crazy gun carriers than by terrorists.
But never mind.
As long as we have an enemy to unite against, I guess it makes people feel good.
I don't want Communism. But, why are we doing so much foreign trade with Communist countries?
Why do American multinationals invest so much in Communist China but we shouldn't trade with Cuba?
It makes no sense to me.
I'm not taking a stand on Communism, but rather I'm asking why saying something positive about Cuba is bad, but saying something positive about China and producing lots of stuff in China is OK.
Is Viet Nam no longer a Communist country? They are included in the TPP.
When is a Communist country that does not allow free speech bad? And when is it OK?
Does anyone know?
Is it really about Communism?
To your post. Bernie has integrity. That's why we trust him. Bernie is not going to lie to us just because it would make him look good to people with a special bone to pick with Cuba.
And I am not approving of Cuba's civil rights record. Nor is Bernie.
But we have to pick our enemies carefully. We can help Cubans more if we do business with them even if they are a repressive Communist country.
And they do train a lot of doctors and have good systems for medical care and education.
But the Cuban government stole a lot of property from Cuban middle class citizens. And that is also a fact.
But it was also a long time ago.

(43,890 posts)Tell me honestly. There's another Bernie Sanders donation hanging in the balance.
If she called him a commie, I'll gladly drop another $100 into the Bernie donation box.

(6,282 posts)Education has generally made me more liberal. But that is neither here nor there.
The point is we are talking about the same period of history; how can you meet Dr. King and be profoundly impacted, her words, and then turn around and support Goldwater the next year. That is inconsistent, and has nothing to do with her current worldview.

(80,708 posts)You know according to the late Mrs. Reagan, we were all supposed to be "just saying no" during the 80s.
It would appear.... some of us did not.

You didn't miss much. The 80s were mostly a cultural wasteland.

will go over very well, it sure turned me back to Clinton.

(80,708 posts)This is, of course, the person who sponsored flag burning legislation directly contrary to the 1st Amendment, whose husband repeatedly tried to censor the internet with unconstitutional "communications decency" legislation, and who even recently treated "freedom of speech" as a cue-the-eyerolls line in a bit (echoed almost identically by Donald Trump) about censoring speech online.
