2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTonight I heard a radio ad for Sanders out of Ohio
I have to say that it was, pound for pound, easily the strongest and most credible presentation I've heard from him so far.
His message has always been solid, but I've often felt that his style was an obstacle for him. Whereas IMO he has previously sounded on-edge and confrontational, the ad presents him as confident, forthright, and eager to earn voters' support.
It was a quick, no bullshit ad, densely packed and seemingly very effective at getting his point across in relatively few words.
Maybe it's an air of confidence that he previously lacked or seemed to lack, but he's definitely on his game.
Well done, Senator.

(46,585 posts)I have often said as a Californian, I feel like our nose is pressed up against the glass viewing the election process unfold from afar. We don't even vote here until June 7th!
Bernie seems to be starting to get in the groove with his stride, and he is shaping up to be a fine candidate.
Thanks for telling us about it!

(63,203 posts)He did a brief interview with NPR in June 2015, when he snapped at the interviewer over a softball question. Some of his supporters here insisted either that he hadn't actually snapped a the the interview, or that he had snapped, but the "gotcha" question deserved it, or that--if he had snapped--it's only because Bernie tells it like it is, etc.
That's all fine, but to someone who wasn't already firmly behind Sanders, it sounded rough, amateurish, and not-ready-for-primetime.
Fast-forward to this week. Heard him again on NPR, but this time he was calm, jovial, confident, and much less focused on proving that he won't answer questions that he doesn't like. He was a wholly different candidate, as though he's realized how this "campaigning" thing actually works.
It's great to see this transformation. I'm still not convinced that he can secure the nomination, but it's clear that he's much better at getting his message across now than he was when he started.

(47,209 posts)I think he used to be more impatient to trace everything back to economics, and he is a bit more comfortable not reducing everything to a money issue. Not quite enough for my taste, but certainly better.
