Saban also said that he is unsure if the screening process for Syrian refugees, which has taken center stage since last weeks terrorist attack in Paris, can sufficiently minimize the threat of terrorists entering the country by posing as refugees.
Many members of the Hollywood community are very liberal and they value their civil liberties more than they value life. I disagree with that. You want to be free and dead? Id rather be not free and alive. The reality is that certain things that are unacceptable in times of peacesuch as profiling, listening in on anyone and everybody who looks suspicious, or interviewing Muslims in a more intense way than interviewing Christian refugeesis all acceptable [during war]. Why? Because we value life more than our civil liberties and its temporary until the problem goes away.
But to say this is shamefulI disagree. Im not suggesting we put Muslims through some kind of a torture room to get them to admit that they are or theyre not terrorists. But I am saying we should have more scrutiny.
You want to be free and dead? Id rather be not free and alive. Haim Saban
Instead of garnering a swift rebuke from the Clinton camp, as did Bowers, Saban ended up releasing a statement, published by the Washington Post, gently walking back his comments. I misspoke. I believe that all refugees coming from Syriaa war-torn country that ISIS calls homeregardless of religion require additional scrutiny before entering the United States, Saban told the paper. I regret making a religious distinction as opposed to a geographical one: its about scrutinizing every single individual coming from a country with ISIS strongholds.
Thats a walk back, all right. But Im not buying. First, look at the breadth of Sabans opening paragraph. Its not just about the religious distinction for refugees: Its about civil liberties at homesomething refugees, who must apply and be accepted before they arrive here, do not enjoy. Of Sabans list of things that are acceptable in times of war, only one (interviewing Muslims in a more intense way) refers to refugees. The rest are more general positions and would apply to broader policy making. One is left wondering what Hillary Clinton thinks of these positions. Does she believe in profiling? (Its worth noting that Sabans notion of temporary limits on civil liberties during a time of war is meaningless when were waging an endless war.)

I was listening to Dean Obadhallah on Steph's show and he mentioned that's the fastest growing group becoming Muslims.

He has a long and storied history with the Clintons that dates back to when President Clinton was in office. He donated $10 million to the Clinton Foundation.
Interesting that he owns Univision.

(3,411 posts)donors. Smug retort was we don't need the little donors ... Hillary's got Haim Saban. Like that was a superior position - a free ticket to paradise. Clinton is connected and he felt vicariously in with the rich, famous and powerful.
It was just gobsmacking.

Just minutes before Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy for the 2016 presidential election, Israeli Channel One News interviewed Haim Saban, an American-Israeli media magnate and long-time Clinton supporter. Noticeably excited, he explained that she had waited to make the announcement until she had carefully prepared the ground for her campaign.
Then came the big question: What is her position on the Iran deal?
Saban responded carefully, She will have to, at some stage, express her opinion. But we know that in essence and in every important matter, she is committed to the security of Israel. She is a friend of the State of Israel. And we've seen this over the past 25 to 30 years. So, there won't be any problems with relations between the United States and Israel when Hillary Clinton is president. No problem. On the contrary.
But Yaakov Ayalon, the host of the nightly Channel One news pressed on: And where does Hillary Clinton stand on this issue?
"I know where she stands but I can't talk about it," Saban admitted.
"Give me a hint," Ayalon had to ask.
"I hinted to you that I know," Saban couldnt repress a laugh. "But I can't reveal to you things that were said behind closed doors. She has an opinion, a very well-defined opinion. And in any case, everything that she thinks and everything she has done and will do will always be for the good of Israel. We don't need to worry about this.
The implication: Clinton is against the Iran deal.

is this yet another issue she would do a 180 on?
more on Saban here:
Pro-Israel billionaires like Haim Saban have long supported Clinton, but she is risking her support from the Democratic base.
By Zaid Jilani / AlterNet
Israeli-American Haim Saban is one of America's richest men, the owner of numerous media and entertainment outlets and a big Democratic donor. When the Democratic National Committee needed a new building, he coughed up $7 million to fund it, one of the largest known donations ever made to an American political party.
What does Saban want for all that money? Im a one-issue guy, and my issue is Israel, he said.
In order to pursue this objective, Saban has been pouring money into Hillary Clinton's super PAC, $2 million by one estimate. This week, Hillary returned the favor. She wrote a long letter to Saban praising Israel and pledging to fight the Palestinian-led boycott movement, which seeks to use economic pressures to end the occupation of their territories.
