Is this Bernie Sander’s “David Duke” moment? When asked to differentiate his brand of social from the communist leader Fidel Castro, Sanders had little to say. The Univision/CNN/Facebook debate featured video of then Mayor Sanders explaining why he believed the Cuban people had not staged an insurrection against Cuba, and why then President Ronald Reagan was wrong to think that Nicaraguans would do the same against the leftist government there. “They had forgotten that he educated their kids, gave them health care,” he said in the video, adding that the Castros had “totally transformed their society” but also qualifying his statement “You know, not to say that Fidel Castro or Cuba are perfect, they are certainly not.”

“In South Florida there are still open wounds among some exiles regarding socialism and communism. So please explain what is the difference between the socialism that you profess and the socialism in Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela,” Univision anchor María Elena Salinas asked.

Sanders got two chances to divorce his “democratic socialist” label from 1960s Cuban communism. At first he focused on the failures of U.S. intervention in Latin America, and historical support for regime change towards brutal dictatorships. But he didn’t really answer the question. Then the moderator gave him another shot.

..................You may recall way back in, when was it, 1961, they invaded Cuba, and everybody was totally convinced that Castro was the worst guy in the world. All the Cuban people were going to rise up in rebellion against Fidel Castro," Sanders was seen saying. "They forgot that he educated their kids, gave them healthcare, totally transformed their society."

Sanders was asked if he regretted the comment.

"The key issue here was whether the United States should go around overthrowing small Latin American countries," Sanders said. "I think that that was a mistake."

"You didn’t answer the question," said Univision anchor Maria Elena Salinas.

Sanders went on to say that he hoped Cuba would become democratic, but that under its current leaders it had made advances.

Clinton returned to the subject during her next turn and — clearly aware of the contents of the video — said that Sanders had in an unaired section "praised what he called the revolution of values in Cuba."

"If the values are that you oppress people, you disappear people, you imprison people or even kill people for expressing their opinions, for expressing freedom of speech, that is not the kind of revolution of values that I ever want to see anywhere," she said, to the crowd’s applause.....................................

Labels are bullshit. People will vote for the man and the program.

The only problem is escaping from within the rotten old Democratic Party with its politics of OLD BULLSHIT that Clinton represents. The media, the bureaucracies and the bullshit social engineering that these kinds of polls represent.

Ask the people what they WANT - not WHOM they like or dislike.

McCarthyist Red-baiting Takes Last Stand in Miami. Nobody will give a crap. All the true believers who think Castro is the devil but have nothing to say about the U.S.-backed death squads in the region from Mexico to Colombia, from Reagan to Secretary Clinton, have already been mobilized for decades. The young are not motivated by this crap, or they look forward to peace.

People are not attracted to his message because of foreign policy issues.
Most young people do not even know who Castro is.
