For fun: One-on-one with Bernie Sanders: Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin?

Updated: March 11, 2016, 10:29 am

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – One by one they lined up, waiting for hours to see their candidate of choice. Thousands of Bernie Sanders supporters chatted as they spent time outside the Expo Hall at the Florida State Fairgrounds.

The rally was hours away, but voters wanted to be there early. There was a palpable energy in the air as attendees discussed the recent campaign momentum coming off the US senator’s primary win in Michigan.

“This is what Bernie is all about,” one young woman said. “He brings people together.”

The crowds were brought together side by side for the large rally, held in a venue with a capacity of 11,000. In the end, Sanders took the stage to a deafening round of applause coming from a wildly cheering crowd consisting of roughly 9,000 people.

Earlier in the day, members of the Secret Service and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office scanned the vast property and cavernous building as people piled in to get their seats.

Sanders received thunderous applause when he took a shot at Republican front-runner Donald Trump. “Do we want to elect a president who insults women?” he asked the screaming crowd.

The senator from Vermont received more cheers when he said, “We need a revolution!”

snip* On Thursday News Channel 8 went one-on-one with Senator Sanders – and it had nothing to do with politics. Does he prefer the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin? Would he rather be at the beach or skiing? Watch our video to find out:

Just about all of the British rockers were inspired by and mimicked the blues greats. While they ripped them off in one sense, they also paid tribute to and helped to create a new audience for blues men like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Sonny Boy Williamson. A number of them enjoyed second careers where they were able to make some money that they really needed.

Bernie looked like he enjoyed that short Q&A about as much as a root canal. He is all business.

The Rolling Stones and others like Eric Clapton played with blues greats, did some recordings with them and brought them out to play at their concerts. They gave the blues men publicity and acknowledged their debt to them. I don't remember Led Zeppelin doing that.

Here's the quote:

On my iPad I have all of Beethoven's symphonies. I like classical music. I am a child of the Sixties — I like the Motown sound and the Supremes and the Temptations. I am one of the few human beings — and this will not find favor with Rolling Stone readers — but I like disco music. I like ABBA. We played some ABBA at my wedding. I like the Bee Gees. I am pretty across-the-board in my musical tastes. I like Celine Dion. I like country music.

If I were voting based on tastes--as much as Motown is great--he would lose my vote.

and classical music is by far my favorite genre though I also enjoy jazz, blues (the real blues), rock and roll and some of the great singers of the American songbook like 1950's Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.

If Bernie starts with Beethoven and classical music that's all I need to know. I forgive him any musical transgressions.

I love rock. (I would have picked Led Zeppelin over the Stones)

I love the blues. (I saw B.B. King and 'Lucille' live in Jacksonville, Florida)

He was probably phasing out of the youth scene when Led first hit (1969).

I'll bet he liked this one, a nice anti-propaganda ditty...

Although, if offered the choice, I'd also bet he might've chosen the Yardbirds from the same time-frame...

Or maybe the Kinks. Ah well, questions for another day.
