1. I hope the model we strive for does not include

evil men walking into churches and killing 9 people.

I get the sentiment she is attempting to communicate, but I would hope for her to have better writers than this. One more sentence here or even a few more words would have improved this.

Something like "This kind of response to violence and hatred should be the model..." would be more clear. I am pretty sure that is what she means.

2. She is talking about coming together to solve problems-not letting the anger

direct our actions. She is saying the anger in Charleston was channeled toward positive actions- She does not want the violence displayed at the rally to be an outcome of that anger so many feel.
