Pay close attention now, Hillary folks, because given the actual FACTS, this was at BEST a disingenuous attack on Sanders.
Later, in December 2008, the Senate took up a separate bill that would have provided rescue funds specifically for the auto industry. That bill failed to get the 60-vote filibuster-proof minimum when Republicans balked at saving General Motors GM +1.43%, Ford and Chrysler, in large part because they wanted to use the occasion to try and destroy the United Auto Workers union, which stood to benefit from a bailout by having their healthcare fund and pensions protected, and its interests prioritized over bond holders. Both Clinton and Sanders voted for this bill.

Is that easier for you to comprehend?

Therefore, his vote against TARP had nothing, nada, zilch to do with the auto bailout. Unless you want to fault him for not having a time machine or a crystal ball to see the future (which I would not be surprised if you or others came up with that).
So your statement that "Sanders risked defeating the auto bailout because of his hatred for banks which were going to need a bailout too to prevent a depression" is, quite simply UNTRUE. Or to put it another way, it is a SCURRILOUS LIE.

So you're blaming him for voting against something he didn't even KNOW was there? AND, something which he later voted FOR in a separate bill? That hardly seems fair.
EDIT: the word I used to describe this attack was disingenuous. And it is. I'll stick with that.

(22,666 posts)I don't think it's so hard to believe. Plus, the way bills in Washington get every damned thing including the commode and the kitchen sink tossed into them often unbeknownst to even the people voting for or against them, I'm hardly surprised, either.

I know facts are pesky little things!!

(6,007 posts)Even when you are told that that Wall Street bailout bill had nothing to do with the auto bailout . . . until Obama decided long after it was passed to use some of the WS bailout funds for the auto bailout.
What that means is that Hillary voted FOR Wall Street and the auto bailout.
And Bernie voted AGAINST Wall Street and FOR the auto bailout.
LATER, after Bush signed it, Obama used the funds for the auto industry.
