I differed with Bernie on the Apple question and a couple where they "could not determine Bernie Sanders' stand on this issue", as well as a few where his stance was a simple "No" and I selected the "No, and..." answer.

Some of my answers didn't fall under Bernie's purview but I'm sure he'd agree. Under cut government spending I said "Yes" but I referenced the idea that I thought both DHS and the NSA should be closed down and have their duties folded into the CIA and FBI. I mean the DHS and NSA are totally unnecessary, especially DHS. DHS is a completely pointless government agency and is the perfect example of government defense agency bloat.
Garrett78
(10,721 posts)...said how important the issue was to you? As I'm sure folks noticed, there were more nuanced or in-depth responses in the list of "other stances." And there were additional questions in most categories. Also, you could indicate how important the particular issue in question is to you (least, less, somewhat, more and most). If people did all of those things, as I did, they'd likely get different results than if they only did the bare minimum. Also, if the candidates are only assigned "yes" or "no" (based on their platform or legislative history) but you gave more nuanced or specific responses, it would be a bit misleading to say you agree with them (since a simple "yes" is different than "yes, but only if..." .
Anyway, my results were as follows:
Stein 97%
Sanders 97%
Clinton 92%
Johnson 69%
Kasich 30%
Trump 24%
Cruz 11%

DU is a lot more conservative than I would have thought.
PatrickforO
(14,514 posts)I wonder who, on behalf of DU, answered all those questions, and how our responses are then compared. In other words, I don't think DU is 54% on economic issues. I think it is 54% on economic issues as related to those I picked as being important to me.

(10,721 posts)Even by answering all of the questions and choosing from among the nuanced responses, and ranking each topic by importance, these sorts of surveys are too simplistic. And if you only do the bare minimum (answering 'yes' or 'no' to a portion of the available questions), why even bother?

(3,411 posts)set of questions to define policies or positions. In ways that count, they are miles apart - else we wouldn't have the polarization on DU between the camps. The ways that count are probably different between the two camps as well. They may be similar on some issues for the purpose of this test, but the test itself is pretty basic stuff. It would be really fun to take it if they fleshed it out more!
By example, I see a whole lot of posters that are aghast at the numbers they are getting for Trump, Kasich, Rubio and Cruz.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)But, as both Bernie and Hillary have frequently said, there is a lot of agreement between them on many critical issues which the Republicans are on the opposite side of.

Should I be freaked out by the fact that the Christo-fascist Cruz is in double digits with me, while the empty suit sticks to single ones? On the other hand, Kasich was the top Republican for me: the most moderate GOP man before we get to RINO/DINO territory.

Which surpises me, I always thought of myself as a conventional conservative, or moderately progressive centrist. But then the GOP started moving the centre, and the Democratic Party ran to "catch up".

(29 posts)I ended up 91% for both Hillary and Bernie. I used the expanded "other" options about 50% of the time when my answer needed some nuance.
I'd happily vote for either but personally prefer Hillary because of her vast and varied experience. I also think that breaking another barrier is an important symbolic nail in the coffin of conservative, right wing policies.
I also do not understand why some people on both sides of the Hillary/Bernie contest get so freaking hysterical and personal in comments about the candidates and each other (basically acting like republicans).
Regardless of who wins the primary, let's all commit to enthusiastically supporting and voting for a Democrat.
