Hillary is having a very bad weekend.

Her comments about the Reagans having been leaders in opening up a public discussion on AIDS were inexcusable, but in some ways even worse; they were bizarre. As Dallasdoc pointed out in his extremely powerful Daily Kos Diary The Wound Has Been Reopened: " Imagine if Barack Obama had presided over 7 years of an Ebola plague which killed over 40,000 Americans without giving a speech on it — even now." Hillary Clinton wasn't just an average American while the AIDS epidemic exploded during the Reagan Presidency - she was living in the Governor's mansion in Arkansas where her husband was a Democratic Governor responsible for helping protect the health of millions of its citizens. An adequate government response to a lethal epidemic, or a lack of same, should very much have been on Hillary's mind then - daily. How do you get totally twisted on the facts regarding something like that when the lack of an adequate federal response once was killing you own constituents?

But it doesn't stop there. Polls show a number of state races starting to tighten, including one CBS poll showing Sanders edging into a lead in Illinois. Bernie drew a crowd to his rally in Tampa Florida more than 10 times larger than the one Hillary attracted on the same day in the same city. And it looks like Clinton is doing what she often resorts to when she starts getting nervous about upcoming results; she goes negative, but she did so this time in a way that made herself look foolish rather than Bernie looking bad. Where was Bernie when she fought for health care she asked? Standing right behind her comes one piece of photographic evidence - to go with another personal gift photo that she had signed to Bernie thanking him for his support on health care. at the time. When Hillary goes negative on Bernie she ends up driving up her own negatives, something she can ill afford to do given her high unfavorables, but she just can't help it it seems.

And then there is that other thing she does when she starts worrying about losing an upcoming primary. She tries to wrap herself in the issues that Bernie is running on, hoping to steal some of his thunder. But Saturday Night Live just called Hillary out on that brilliantly, in a spoof political ad that literally had her morphing into Bernie Sanders. Ouch. To make matters worse the real Hillary only offered up a pale imitation in real life, and the real Bernie promptly raised the ante on her. Hillary wants to tweek a provision of the TPP related to auto imports, but Bernie challenged her to join him in fully rejecting yet another disastrous international trade deal. And the once industrial Mid West seems to be resonating with Bernie's stance on that. To complicate things even further for Hillary, Bernie is also challenging Hillary to distance herself from unpopular Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, something she can not easily do which puts her at a disadvantage in the Democratic primary.

But that's not all. Just when Clinton most needs to blunt any momentum for Sanders going into the Tuesday races, suddenly the daily news cycle coverage has expanded beyond "all Trump, all day" to include, you guessed it, Bernie Sanders. Bernie is on message, standing strong as he turns aside a fresh slew of attacks on him now from a rattled Donald Trump, who is trying to blame Sanders for the ugliness his own crypto-fascist behavior at rallies has spawned. That drama should take us at least into Tuesday when the actual voting begins. Until then the optics are mostly Trump vs Sanders in the Presidential race - not exactly the type of framing that Hillary Clinton needs right now.

Or none that she speaks of. Whenever she does mention some issue, and you ask for details, all I hear is "her experience."

If you want the clearest expression of how the tide has shifted away from Hillary and to Bernie, watch her opponents. They, especially Trump, don't even bother mentioning her as inevitable anymore. They are actually beginning to name Sanders.

For all his bluster, bullshit and bias, Trump is a very successful con artist. He does his homework and he studies his marks carefully. Just look at how "easily" he disarmed Jeb!, how he grounded Christie, embarrassed Fiorina, how he cut the legs from under Rubio, and how he has made Cruz a national punchline.

Trump has a talent for going for the jugular, but don't tell me he came up with those attacks on the fly. He made them look natural, but they were the product of research and knowledge of their weaknesses.

Now, Trump is mentioning and threatening Sanders. Why? Because he understands the voters here and now, and he sees a very good chance that Sanders will win the nomination.

I watched with horror the Trump speech last night and he is now blaming Bernie supporters for the violence at his rallies, saying they have shown up with 'professionally made' signs and calling Sanders a communist.

Trump says, "Oh, Bernie, Bernie BERNie!"

If this is ALL the guy has on Bernie, then we'll roll over him like a people's juggernaut come November. Bernie is the only one who can beat Trump. Clinton certainly cannot. He'll do the SAME thing to her as he's doing to Cruz. "Oh, she just lies and lies and lies!" and then he'll back that up with ACTUAL examples and she won't stand a chance.

That gave her her last best chance to relaunch her political career on a different trajectory. No matter who she had been before she could claim she was trying to get things done inside the system according to the rules that people accepted. Then the economy totally collapsed and just how rotten the foundation of our economy had become became much clearer to million of voters. If Hillary sincerely wanted to move left, that was the time to do it, when she reemerged from world trotting and the relative isolation of the Obama cabinet.

Instead she wrote a self serving book and made tens of millions of dollars in speaking fees. She lost her final chance to be taken as authentic when she tries to adjust her position of free trade now to respond to growing public anger over it.

Cross posting from another thread about Bernie talking a lead in Illinois after being down 30%:

OK, Camp Weathervane, I concede it is within the MOE

And I know that if Mrs C were ahead by two points, you'd be proclaiming that 2 points is two points is two points and Bernie can't win.

However, a thirty-point lead is a thirty-point lead is a thirty-point lead and Mrs C and her campaign aides have blown another one. How many more big leads can your candidate afford to blow?

After New Hampshire, where Mrs C blow a lead and lost, it was obvious that something was wrong with her campaign. Her campaign made no adjustments. After Michigan, if her campaign made any adjustments, it was to amp up the falsehoods and misrepresentations of Bernie's positions over the years, which is desperation rather than an adjustment based on a sober, rational analysis of the situation.

The wheels are still coming off the Clinton campaign. Residents of Camp Weathervane, I know not all of you are sophists who are going to tell us that NAFTA created jobs or crooked banks don't support Hillary because it's the bankers who work for them who do. Put your thinking caps on, residents of Camp Weathervane, and try to figure this out. I may think that Hillary Clinton will poor president and that's one reason I'm supporting Bernie, but another is that I believe that common citizens can run America better than the elites whose self-serving policies have wrought lost jobs, rising income inequality and endless wars. The same goes for your candidate and her campaign. It's time to stop following incompetent leaders and show them how to lead. The Clinton campaign needs a populist revolution. Rise up

I've not been a Hillary supporter, primarily because of the fact that she is Hillary. She's not my choice of candidate.

I have no personal history with AIDS or HIV...I don't have the disease, and I've not lost anyone close to me from it.

That doesn't mean I can't feel a sense of anger when Hillary decides to prop up a woman who, along with her husband, ignored the disease while her husband's monkeys routinely laughed at it in press conferences. The same man and woman who told a friend "goodbye and good luck" when he was dying from AIDS at a time when a phone call could have saved his life. No one can guarantee that the cure Hudson was seeking in France would have guaranteed saving his life. By the same token, no one can guarantee that it wouldn't have saved him. The only thing we can guarantee is that the Reagans squashed the attempt.

And the Bernie Sanders thing? What the hell can you say about that? How can even the staunchest Clinton supporter defend her remarks in the face of photographic evidence, especially when one of the photographs bears a personal, hand-written thank you and her signature?

When it comes to her candidacy, I'm out. Period. There's no way in hell that I would vote for Hillary Clinton. If her behavior in the last week isn't enough to scare off anyone with an ounce of discernment, they probably shouldn't be scared by anyone else running, either.

52. The murder of Berta Caceres in Honduras revealed the dark side of Clinton's SoS tenure,
Sun Mar 13, 2016, 04:14 PM
Mar 2016

in a way that was a lot closer to home than the Clinton-assisted disasters in Libya and Syria. Hillary Clinton supported the fascist military coup in Honduras in 2009 and those bastards use death squads to keep the wealth and power in the hands of the "ten families" who control Honduras and who are allied with U.S. transglobal corporations that operate in Honduras and other bad actors.

Emails reveal that Clinton acted to ensure that the ELECTED president of Honduras, Mel Zelaya--who was doing things like raising the minimum wage, providing school lunches for poor children and free bus fare for poor workers--would NOT be restored to his rightful office.

Those of us who followed those events closely knew that Clinton was responsible for--if not directly planning the coup (probably the Bush junta did that)--turning a blind eye to the fascist terrorism that was unleashed upon the Honduran people as they saw their democracy destroyed, and she worked all sorts of slimy tricks to legitimize the coup government. Her purpose was obvious to us, but her emails made it explicit.

The entirety of Latin America condemned this coup and the phony U.S. State Department-run election, under martial law, that put the fascists in charge of the government. Meanwhile, they chopped off the head of one coup protestor and left his body in the road for all to see, shot one teacher dead in front of his students, and began a campaign of systematic rapes, beatings, jailings and murders of women anti-coup activists, gay activists and others, which last week resulted in the murder of Berta Cáceres, who had won the Goldman Environmental Prize, and was well known as an anti-coup, pro-environment, Indigenous leader.

DUers also connected the dots between this and Clinton's close friendship with Henry Kissinger, the war criminal who, in addition to killing millions in Southeast Asia, destroyed Chile's democracy in much the same way that Clinton destroyed Honduran democracy.

This all came out over the last ten days. (Cáceres was murdered on March 3, 2016). I think that qualifies for inclusion in "the bad week for Clinton" extending into this weekend, as reported by Democracy Now two days ago:

Berta Cáceres herself connected the dots between Clinton and the coup, before she was murdered:

It is very long, very personal, very eloquent in why it is so hard for some to just move on now. I am not effected personally by this in anything like the same way. My own experience of that time comes back to me now, but it is no where near as powerful and raw as this:

only HRC chose to completely distort a negative into a positive. It is easy to praise her dedication to her husband. It is easy to speak of her support of stem cell research in 2004. You could speak of her elegance. The key to these statements is to find whatever common ground there is and make an honest positive statement.

Here, between her condescending inaccurate statement and the.various explaination, she hurt many and ultimately ended up with a strong critical statement against the woman who died.

and then lies on top of lies. I can't keep track of them all. But, lucky for me that isn't how I operate. I hear a whopper and I assume all that follows is probably a whopper as well. I sort through everything later to see if there was any truth. As far as the Hillary's remarks about Nancy Reagan. Not even a little truth, just whopper after whopper. This should kill her chances at the nomination. Oh say can you spread this around people should know.

I have read bits and pieces of his history over the years but his last diary had me in tears. Hillary should be ashamed of herself.

crisis were actually heroes? She's all smiles and who gives a shit about them. Got it. Just like her supporters, she can't even spent one respectful day making amends for a really great wrong.

Her message to me was this: You have never been heard in this Party and you are not really welcome in it. We love Ron and Nancy, who tried to kill you.

So have a nice wallowing in sparkly photos and emoticons. It looks very gracious.

She sure doesn't lack for photo-ops with other pols looking to rub some Hillary dust on themselves.

I watched her walk onstage here in Youngstown with our esteemed congressman, Tim Ryan. He's up for re-election this fall and didn't mind accompanying her to the podium. Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown offers his full endorsement of this "down on her luck" candidate as well in the run up to his own contest.

I swear, the Bernie people are so perpetually outraged over nothing they've finally ripped the handle right off the fire alarm. Regardless how universal they imagine their frantic ravings against Clinton to be, no one is listening anymore.

Meanwhile, Bernie's "bad week" is likely to begin on Tuesday.
