Hillary on why she's the candidate to defeat Trump

1. I'm the only candidate who has gotten more votes than Trump, 600,000 more votes than Trump.
2. Convince people this is the highest stakes election they've ever been involved in and even if they've never voted before they need to come out and vote for me and against Trump. Because I do have more votes than anybody I believe I do have the base to do that.
3. One of my advantages is that the Republicans have been after me for 25 years and there isn't anything they haven't already said about me and I have developed a pretty thick skin. I am not new to the national arena and I think whoever goes up against Donald Trump better be ready and I think I am the best prepared.
4. There are going to be a lot of arguments to be made against him and I am not going to spill the beans. But because of my background as Secretary of State is what his Presidency would mean to our country and our standing in the world. I am already receiving messages from foreign leaders asking if they can endorse me. Lots of time I think foreign policy does not play as big a role as I think it should. Only the really hard decisions come to the President. If the decision is not really hard somebody along the way has a chance to make the decision. So when you end up in the Situation Room on a really serious foreign policy decision like I was there with that small group advising the President whether to go after Bid Laden, it takes incredible seriousness, diligence, judgment, a temperament that is not going to be pushed one way or the other based on who said what to you today and I believe I will have an opportunity to focus in on how dangerous a Donald Trump Presidency would be for our standing, for our safety, for the peace of the world and I think we could be successful doing that.

Comments? I have some thoughts but this is long enough already so I will respond.

1. She's the candidate to lose to Trump is more like it.

1. Trump is also running against 3 other people currently, and was running in a field of 17.
2. #1 is false so don't reference it and every election is the "highest stakes" election
3. Well, they didn't have an active FBI investigation, email exposure showing her actions contradicted her words many times, etc...
4. This is kind of rambling and I lost interest since I couldn't find any true rationale in it to discuss.

2. Reason 4 is word salad. Is that a quote?

5. It is in fact a quote.

That is exactly what I recall her response to be.

She had some weird quotes toward the end, including her strange admission she was going to put coal miners out of work.

12. In what respect, Charlie?

Man did she have some crazy, rambling responses.

3. "Because I have a lot of political baggage they've attacked me on for 25 years"

"So I'm used to it".

That's what I heard.

And yes, Hillary, we're used to it too. Painfully used to it, and would rather not relive it.

As for tough skin, if you think that a Democratic Socialist in Congress for 25+ years hasn't developed a similarly tough skin, you're crazy. He just developed his by continually fighting for progressive ideals, rather than political scandal.

6. I think if you're Hillary, this wasn't a good answer

She needed to focus on points that were in direct contrast to what Trump is all about. This was a chance to talk about things like fighting for people's economic justice and social equality, something Trump would never fight for. Instead, she focuses on 'thick skin', foreign policy decisions, and getting more votes in primaries when the votes have a different value per political party.

Sadly however, this was a disappointing answer by Secretary Clinton and I expected better.

7. She could beat him:

1&2: votes" Of course, it's early in the race, just finished up with her 'firewall' states, in a two person Dem race. And the Repubs had up to 17(?) candidates splitting their vote ... of course she has the most votes (assuming we ignore the caucus races where votes are not really counted.)

3: Republicans have been after her, and that's why she had to run in NY where she didn't have to deal with that Republican backlash. Has she won an election in a race where she had to seriously deal with that issue yet?

4: she'll look into it? More secrets with secret support from secret people.

Or she could just abandon all the progressive policies she had to pretend to have in the primaries, revert back to her old policies, and run to his right where she's more comfortable.

8. Um, Hillary's thick skin is irrelevant. It is the voters' perception of Hillary when the voluminous

baggage is hauled out that is important. Not how Hillary is so used to it. Why on earth would her thick skin be important?

Again, she has no inkling that this is about all of us, not just her.

13. My responses

1. As the previous response notes, Hillary was running against one opponent while Trump was running against many more, anywhere from 3 to 10 or more. But in addition to that, Hillary has piled up the biggest part of her vote total lead against Bernie Sanders, maybe more than 100% of that lead, in states that a Democrat, whether Hillary or Bernie, is unlikely to win in a general election vs. Trump.
2. Every election is the most important we've ever faced and you can find quotes on every one of them. It does nothing to distinguish between Hillary or Bernie versus Trump.
3. This answer illustrates how many different points of attack Trump would have against Hillary. Add in political positions she is vulnerable to be attacked on by Trump that Bernie can't be attacked on: 1) support for Iraq War, 2) support for every free trade deal, 3) vast sums pulled in from SuperPacs, 4) close ties to Wall Street including speech income. Those are a few, I'm sure there are many others. Bernie can be attacked by Trump on the socialist label and on being too far left, but as Hilllary's campaign has found out there isn't a whiff of scandal to pin on Bernie. The only attempts she has made to go after Bernie on his voting record have blown up in her face.
4) A long winded example of name dropping and a replay of the 3 AM phone call ad. It can be easily countered with her hawkish past as a supporter of the Iraq War and as Secretary of State.

14. She certainly knows Trump better than Sanders, having been invited to and attended his wedding even.
