Many may still be sleeping, but the awakening has begun!

In their somnolence many are only dimly aware of lies and propaganda as told by the corporate owned media and thus some support a candidate that openly and habitually lies to them in order to continue serving her masters that have already made her a multimillionaire by doing their bidding at our expense.

However some dreamers have awakened! Many no longer follow the mcpravda media and are seeing with their own newly opened eyes as their lives and livelihoods fall apart all around them while the billionaires capture all the wealth created by the work and effort of those that see themselves falling either from middle class into the working poor, or from the poor to the desperately impoverished. while at the same time witnessing the once solid safety nets put into place to keep them safe and fed, free from the horrid conditions of more Dickensian times being ripped to shreds little by little before their eyes, with both parties complicit in their destruction.

One need look no farther than a Republican stump speech or the more cleverly hidden common goals of the new Democrats that have become Vichy collaborators that hide their plans in the open to destroy those safeguards against complete hopelessness by perusing the chapters of the PPI or Third Way sites where they scheme with the (john Birch Society Transformed) Republican party to not only recreate the gilded age (which they have already done).

But to surpass it via the now global neo-liberalism and it's trade deals to the bottom, it's austerity, it's privatization of all the nations commons, it's near enslavement of all the worlds workers, and it's desired complete destruction of any semblance of a middle class in an insane attempt to create the wealthiest class ever, which will create the poorest population conceivable.

The new generations are fully awake however and are beginning to feel their power and the power of unity that will in time destroy the depravities and horrors of completely unchecked Capitalism via revolution. The question becomes when and how at this point, the people united win!!! Once after a depression a man and his political revolution saved us from the very same plan at this very same stage, by mixing Socialism with Capitalism and regulating it and thereby defanging the beast of it's venom.

His name was Franklin D. Roosevelt. WE that are awake, those that are awakening, and those of a younger generation not polluted by propaganda must either unite again in a similar political revolution, or else they WILL succeed with their Dickensian utopia until such a time as a different sort of Revolution occurs - one involving a great deal of blood, death, and in the end a victor that may or may not be any better than the ruling elite that it defeats, that is if it defeats it at all the first go around

For the sake of us all, I hope we make the better choice for all of humanity as this is history folks and history almost always ends up with the bloody revolution. However unlike in the past, we are facing an Extinction level event that threatens many of the lifeforms on the planet including humanity itself and so we lack the luxury of time and blood soaked streets and the turmoil that follows such ever recurring events before things settle and we begin to repair the damage being done to the biosphere that supports us.

Not to be an alarmist, but the alarm has already sounded and we not only need to fight and win a political revolution and defeat the plutocrats, we must restore balance and sanity again, but we must do so quickly.

We must unite as well and stop being divided by minor differences within our species (in truth there is only one human race regardless of melanin content, shape of eye, differences in sex organs, or varying choices of sexuality and we need to wake up from meaningless differences very quickly if we are to survive) we absolutely must unify and do so quickly..

There is no more time to play history's games of the wealthy siphoning everything until a revolution occurs, or the games of racism, sexism, or any other isms.

For time is too short and not only must the quality of life of the struggling and ever more impoverished masses be resolved, but unity must happen or not only will the impoverished grow hungry, but the entire human race will cease to exist.

We have run out of time to play the DNC and RNC games and fully awaken not only to live well, but to live at all.
The Younger generation has begun to glean this and so must we all, and unfortunately time is so short that such grand goals with such high stakes must begin by winning a simple yet difficult to win political revolution happening in this very election. Made so unnecessarily difficult by pure, short sighted ridiculous greed of people like the Clintons, their third way and the Republicans.

Let us all awaken now!!!!

“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

― Winston S. Churchill

That's a man who certainly knew what he was talking about, speaking from dire experience that should never have to be repeated, and shouldn't have happened in his time either, as he says.

Voting is easier than marching is easier than fighting. Voting for "the system" isn't going to change it though, it's asking for more of the same.

Wise and true words, in fact the entire reply is well said. It is much easier to vote than have to fight physically.

I am also fond of the Hunter S. Thompson quote in your sig line.

It is true that we need a New Deal right now, because time for anything but sane government is running out, it must also take much more seriously new and far more important problems as well as the one's FDR solved that must solved again. New extremely important problems than we had at the time of FDR's political revolution, that of a planet that will soon start over again with whatever species survives our impending self imposed pending extinction.

Half measures and making deals with fossil fuel companies and those that pollute the earth in other ways will simply not save us from extinction.

There are some that believe that even if we take very strong measures today (much , much, stronger measures than any have yet placed on the table) it may already be too late to matter, only stay the extinction a while longer, I prefer to be an optimist on this point myself however.

Yet we must do what we can, and part of it involves having a decent society of well cared for people involved in a newly uncorrupted government for us to have any chance at all.

So I thought I would ad my two coppers and help out the others that understand the often looked over situation we are in with the environment and how it relates to the need to quickly address corruption as well as wealth disparity and the divisions that keep us from coming together under a new banner to combat them all effectively.

It is easy to overlook the urgency of it all unless you spend time looking at environmental projections because things are becoming noticeable, but it is not common for the average person to understand how little time we have to address all these issues.

Who knows what the whale was thinking?

Maybe something like "holy fuck, this shit is getting really bad, very bad things are happening and not like anything in our instinctual memories".

Maybe it wanted a better look to report the very bad things to it's pod? A whale version of the videographers on the mountain perhaps?

I wonder if they're capable of that? They seem to be capable of so much more than we give them credit for. It would be fitting if that Star Trek movie about the whales came about, only in this version & Humans get slapped down a few pegs & learn a little about how to treat Other Species & how to share our space. One can dream.

Love your pod videographer suggestion. It would make a good story - the calving event from the whale's point of view.

down the path of destruction and destabilizing the region, while he spent his spare time helping the cause of the wealthy at our expense.

I spent so much time back then opposing the war only to be ignored by the cameras as were many of us.

DU was much better however in many ways back then, we were united in opposing his trade deals and other republican goals, republican goals that are now gaining support here because they come out of the mouths of Third Way "Democrats" in office.

It was a long time ago and I did not post much, but joined Swamprat as one of the guys posting a ton of graphic art. I didn't find my voice until much later, now I find that sometimes I get replies that sound like the ones I used to get from republicans on comment sections of articles, only now they come from "Democrats". we didn't get that back then, except from the occasional troll, but now many here support republican policies from the 80's and 90's as they are now popular here with so many.

I miss the old site, because we were all liberal back then, with only one or two mostly ignored Conservative "Democratic" posters.

That Was Easy: In Just 60 Years, Neoliberal Capitalism Has Nearly Broken Planet Earth

Using what it calls a "planetary dashboard," the research charts the spread and speed of human activity from the start of the industrial revolution in 1750 to 2010, and the subsequent changes in the Earth System – e.g. greenhouse gas levels, ocean acidification, deforestation and biodiversity deterioration. The analysis found that increased human activity—and "predominantly the global economic system"—has unseated all other factors as the primary driver of change in the Earth System, which the report describes as "the sum of our planet's interacting physical, chemical, biological and human processes." The most striking, i.e. "accelerated," changes to that system have occurred in the last sixty years.

"It is difficult to overestimate the scale and speed of change. In a single lifetime humanity has become a geological force at the planetary-scale," said Steffen, who also led the Acceleration study.

The conclusion that the world's dominant economic model—a globalized form of neoliberal capitalism, largely based on international trade and fueled by extracting and consuming natural resources—is the driving force behind planetary destruction will not come as a shock, but the model's detailed description of how this has worked since the middle of the 20th century makes a more substantial case than many previous attempts.

"When we first aggregated these datasets, we expected to see major changes but what surprised us was the timing. Almost all graphs show the same pattern. The most dramatic shifts have occurred since 1950. We can say that around 1950 was the start of the Great Acceleration," says Steffen. "After 1950 we can see that major Earth System changes became directly linked to changes largely related to the global economic system. This is a new phenomenon and indicates that humanity has a new responsibility at a global level for the planet."

The Second Law of Thermodynamics underwrites all our behaviour. The reason neoliberal capitalism has become the world's dominant economic system is that it is the most efficient means we have yet discovered for turning the planet into entropic waste.

WWII and the Cold War were fought to decide whose system would get to wreck the planet. The test was both ingenious and insidious. Those wars demonstrated that the winning system had both the power and will to wreck the planet, and also gave it the right (might makes right) to do so. The amazing part is that nobody noticed what game was really being played underneath the facade of politics and progress.

Now it's too late: the system that's wrecking the place resists all attempts at significant reform, and there is no way to replace the system outright without wrecking the place even more.

Of course most people don't see it that way, preferring to blame someone. To paraphrase a famous Einstein quote, "The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who believe they are doing good."

discourages people from trying to get on board with a plan for survival, I agree that if things remain as they are, it is utterly hopeless, but I also believe that if people lose their apathy which prevents any meaningful changes. we might, how ever slim the chance, begin to build a worldwide coalition to take the issue much more seriously and reverse the greenhouse gas trends.

I am not a scientist, but if we reverse those trends via carbon neutral energy solutions along with a botanical approach (designing plants that are most efficient at absorbing carbon and producing oxygen, then plant things any and everywhere possible, it could end up mitigating the damage enough that although we won't escape a bad change in climate, we might bring the change down to survivable levels.

It's a long shot, but at least try adding that bit instead of admitting how hopeless it truly appears to be. JMO
