Clear evidence that, in a way, "the fix is in" - re how the debate aftermaths are formed....
Many of us here watched the debate, and saw Romney get stomped far worse in the debate than how Obama was impacted in the first debate. In that one, it was more of a laid back, presidential style vs an alpha assault on both moderator and Obama by Romney, but there were no Obama misstatements or mistakes. Yet.....look at the following spin - and, yes, sadly the spin, much of it hand wringing from the media on so-called "our side", probably impacted the polls to a degree.
Last night Romney's "performance" was far worse than what happened to Obama in the first debate - misstatements, clear errors, lies, an utter knock out. Obama's performance was nearly perfect pitch. He destroyed Romney AND looked presidential - both in terms of intellect and leadership. And what do we wake up to today? A very, very few "Obama slight winner", slew of "the debate was a draw, and both were unlikable", and yes, a few "Romney won on substance". Yes, the media is part of the corporate bubble - they are in it, a part of it, and very well paid by it. There are many, many factors working against Obama's reelection for a myriad of reasons. He should be smoking Romney in the polls - but the gullibility and laziness and apathy of so many Americans brings us to this media-salivating moment of a "horserace". Horse Shit, I say. Not sure what to do about it...but some sort of fix is definitely playing out before our eyes. And the reaction to last night's debate just cemented that fact. edited- sample of titles of articles post-debate, from RCP. 1. Romney won on substance?
Who the hell said that? Let me guess...Fox News. Or, someone watching the Parallel Universe Debate?

3. The media is just being media
They are squeezing every ad dollar they can out of this race...
and if it's a blow out for Obama then their ad dollars dry up. |

4. They can distort all they want, but people can see for themselves. Also, undecided are a myth.
Those folks are either lying or complete uninformed idiots

5. That's not what I'm seeing
Even Joe was down on Romney.
Just go to Freeperville. Their posts today prove that even they can spin it in Romney's favor. Their excuses and justifications would be hilarious, if they weren't so pathetic. |

6. They decided on that outcome before the debate.
Either Romney wins or it was a draw. They want the horserace to continue for obvious reasons. I am on my Facebook and Twitter posting up a storm in defense of Obama's performance. There is a great video of his closing remarks that just got posted. It must be effective because it got a bunch of negative feedback from my Rep friends as soon as I put it up. Also a bunch of funny stuff about the binders full of women that make Romney look like the ass that he is. And I will be out doing GOTV this weekend as well.

7. MSM is all about $$$$$! MSM wants edgy results to keep viewers watching their SH** while MSM
watches their profits soar.
Much of MSM sounds like babbling fools. And IMO MSNBC is falling by the wayside into the Fox/CNN crowd as Comcast appears to be directing MSNBC more and more. They're all spokesmen for Corporate America, USA, Inc. Americans well might be the most propagandized people on earth ... and under free choice to be propagandized. Many are so mesmerized by MSM propaganda they don't have any F'en idea what's going on. I've been places where people will say, "Fox said," ... like Fox is some god from the mount on high that spews edicts of irrefutable truths. ![]() |

9. On NPR this a.m., debate coverage included interviews with voters
One guy said how well he thought RMONEY comes across even though half of what he's saying isn't true. There is a strong element in the electorate that just expects to be lied to by ANY politician. So I guess it comes down to: we know they're lying, but who is the better liar?

12. I think the tone this morning is very favorable to Obama
I think you have George Will, David Brooks, snap polls, commentators talking about how Obama turned Benghazi into a winning issues, people making fun of Rmoney's position on women's rights, etc., the overall thrust of events is very favorable to Obama. Sure, there are some who are spinning a different story, but that's to be expected. Obama won the debate, and I think that's the general tone of things.

13. This is not unexpected
We knew ahead of time that if we won the MSM would call it a "draw". Since they are saying Obama was the "slight winner" - we apparently won by a landslide.

the debate was a virtual tie. Huh? What does Obama have to do to win if last night's smackdown was a virtual tie???

17. "Obama wins the second debate. Too bad it’s not the one that mattered."
On the Yahoo News Feed. What Tripe.
"Obama wins the second debate. Too bad it’s not the one that mattered."
Jeff Greenfield When the evening began, one observation dominated the conversation: “If President Barack Obama has another debate like the last one, the election’s over.” When the evening ended, I was struck by a different thought: If Obama had performed this way at the first debate, the election would have been over. In every debate, whatever the format, whatever the questions, there is one and only one way to identify the winner: Who commands the room? Who drives the narrative? Who is in charge? More often than not on Tuesday night, I think, Obama had the better of it. http://news.yahoo.com/obama-wins-the-second-debate--too-bad-it%E2%80%99s-not-the-one-that-mattered-1568495.html ![]() |

18. I agree with OP
Its puzzling.
Romney was destroyed and yet the media seems to be all over the "Draw or Barely an Obama Win" narrative this morning. And I pride myself on being objective as I was one of the very first people of like mind to see that O was getting badly beaten in the first debate (I recognized it 5 mins into the debate even though the Dems I watched with were like "no he's doing great" ![]() |

19. They're also selling news to Republicans who cannot tolerate
the harsh truth about their ideology and their leaders.
.. just on MSNBC - Maggie Haberman "Not very forward looking, didn't lay out an agenda" ... just heard this - as if the format allowed it - as if Obama doesn't do this everyday and show the results with unemployment numbers. |

21. The 'media' is a fact of life..
and will not change. It has nothing to do with ratings, and everything to do with creating perception. I think if a race is perceived as close, it can be tampered with. As we have seen, votes can be tossed, people can be prevented from voting in a myriad of ways. If the polls and the media indicate a land-slide, it is not possible to steal the amount of votes needed to make a difference, with any sense of credibility. It doesn't matter what the truth is, it matters what the perception is.
