Bernie Sanders sets Boise rally on Monday; Hillary Clinton campaign has Michelle Kwan event in Boise

With Idaho’s March 22 Democratic Party presidential caucuses coming up fast, Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders has announced that he’ll hold a campaign rally in Boise on Monday. Sanders already was scheduled to appear in Idaho Falls on Friday; the Boise event, set for Taco Bell Arena with doors opening at 9 a.m., is a late addition. The event is free and open to the public, but attendees are asked to RSVP online here.

Meanwhile, rival Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has announced that U.S. Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan will be in Boise this evening for a Clinton campaign event. It will take place at Boise State University’s Hatch Ballroom A from 6-7:30 today.

I'm not at all sure that qualifies her to to speak to the issues on behalf of Clinton. I'm looking forward to seeing Bernie here, though.

That might not make her as qualified as Killer Mike, I suppose.

grandson of Sen. Clayborn Pell. Clay has run for office himself, so I'm guessing that Michelle has more than a passing interest in politics.

If she is able to enthuse the crowd, more power to her. But as I state above, talent and celebrity are not actually qualifications when it comes to speaking of national political issues.

I'll wait for the real deal on the 21st.

On November 9, 2006, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice named Michelle Kwan as a public diplomacy ambassador. In this non-salaried position, Kwan represented American values, especially to young people and sports enthusiasts, and traveled widely.[84] Kwan made her first overseas trip in the capacity of public diplomacy ambassador with a visit to China from January 17–25, 2007.[85]

Her diplomatic position as an envoy has continued in the Barack Obama administration where she has worked with Vice President Joe Biden[86] and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.[87]

Following her first trip to China as a public diplomacy envoy, Kwan continued her role in subsequent trips to Russia in June 2007,[88] Argentina in March 2008,[89] Ukraine in February 2009,[90] South Korea in January 2010,[91] and Singapore in January 2011.[57][92]

On April 15, 2011, it was announced that Kwan would serve as an adviser to the U.S.-China Women's Leadership Exchange and Dialogue (Women-LEAD).[93] In December 2012, Kwan was appointed as a State Department senior adviser for public diplomacy and public affairs.[94][link:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle_Kwan|

Sorry, I don't feel celebrity endorsements are meaningful in any way, regardless of on whose behalf. If a candidate can not or will not make the effort to put in an appearance, that makes it that much easier to see who they consider important.
