2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum"Bernie or Bust" = White Privilege
The "Bernie or Bust" crowd aren't the people that would suffer most under a Trump Presidency.
You aren't at risk of being deported or having it happen to your family. You aren't going to be barred from coming to this country because of your religion. Are aren't viewer as sub-human by the White Supremacists that love Trump so much.
You can afford to want Hillary to lose just so you can say "I told you so." Millions of other people in this country and around the world don't have that luxury.
Don't take this as a plea to get you to vote for Hillary. Quite the opposite. For one, your temper tantrum isn't going to work, Hillary is going to be President. Also, you aren't the type of "Democrat" I would want to associate myself with.
Every time one of you vows to leave the party and never come back, my attitude is "good riddance." We're better off without you.

(2,461 posts)They all seem the same to me, except for their backers - which is nothing to sneeze at. From afar and outside, I am having a hard time figuring out why people consider Hillary a democrat.
The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)I don't think you made that argument in good faith. If you think that Nixon, Reagan and Clinton are the same thing, that speaks more to your understanding and judgment than it does any of those three figures, or any others.
floppyboo
(2,461 posts)All 3 have similar health care, social security, immigration policies. All 3 have similar hawkish regime change policies (although Nixon can claim bringing China in from the cold, and Reagan gets Russia - Obama gets Iran and Cuba - go Obama! ... Although Clinton had resigned before either, I consider her part of the administration)
So, aside from the obvious labels and how history has treated them, what would you say are some highlight differences? You can just keep your attitude that I'm wrong and need education, but that would not be very loving of you. Time for some mending. Tell me something good! (like your handle: Those who live in glass houses etc.)
The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)Those towards me and towards Secretary Clinton. Or do you not have the courage of your convictions to do that. Your sarcasm might make sense to you, but it is incoherent to everyone else.

Heck, there wasn't a famous "moment" when Bill Clinton told the left to shut up and get in line in his 1992 campaign either.
Nope. It's totally new and unprecedented. Nothing at all has been fueling and building massive dissatisfaction with the Democratic party.
And there's no way at all that dissatisfaction would now be expressed as "Bernie or bust". That is entirely fueled by racism and sexism, and there should be no backlash against claiming it's fueled entirely by racism and sexism.
Or without the sarcasm, this is what 30 years of "shut up and do what we say" yields, especially after massive electoral disasters. It's gonna hurt. And blaming that hurt on the people who have been actively marginalized by the party is not going to fix it.

(1,252 posts)All you are doing is driving this Bernie supporter as far away from Hillary as can be. This is an ugly and persistent smear that was started early on against the champion who would represent the best interests of the 99%. A vote for Hillary is a wasted vote. UNLESS you love dirty water, air, poverty, profit prison system, soaring health care costs, and never ending debt for the most vulnerable members of society.

(1,252 posts)that Hillary is such a weak unlikable candidate that the only way to get a vote for her is to create a boogie man in her pal, Donald Trump - and have her partners in the media make him out to be the worst thing since Hitler. She went to his wedding. They are friends. They are in the same club of filthy filthy rich people who are governed only by greed. She will frack away your health just as rotten as he will make things. You know the differenced? He is honest about being an arrogant prick. She is so phony one could know her for decades and not know her at all. Her principles are for hire. You want a good future? Unite behind Bernie and put a stop to all these establishment / and or corporate rulers. Without a government of the people , for the people, and by the people we will have a government by the wealthy who have a golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules. So if you can call those who stand on principle arrogant, selfish, stupid and narcissistic I can say that anyone who votes for Hillary Clinton is blind as a bat or must love perpetual war. Because that is what you are going to get. I saw this in 2000 when Bush was running and I screamed it from the roof tops but we got him anyway. This time we have a true champion in Bernie Sanders who is willing to shine the light of truth on all of the injustices that 99% must endure. Go ahead and hide me or flag me but Hillary is no better than her pal, GW BUSH.
PeaceNikki
(27,985 posts)Work your ass off for him or her. (1,252 posts)as you say, because I don't like being intimidated or bullied or insulted or called names or guilted in to voting for Clinton. I value honesty, integrity and someone who shares my values. I ain't gonna hold my nose and vote for a Liar.

(27,985 posts)Do you remind everyone when they reuse words and shake your finger at them for it? That's not a very useful service but it would keep you quite busy. The pay is shit but it probably makes you feel good. That's cool. You do you.
Here's some insight, though. When people here reuse words they've said before it's most likely because: A) they feel strongly about them B) their are repeated opportunities where the same words are applicable.
I do appreciate your great interest in me personally, though.
Now about the words themselves: I stand by them. Each time I said them. This is a a Democratic board whose purpose is to help elect Democrats. I don't care if my words "sway" anyone to whom they apply. Honestly, I don't think anyone they apply to is here in good faith and wouldn't be "swayed" no matter how gently I or anyone else tried. If they apply to you and you're bothered by them, bummer. People post their opinions here all day every day and, as long as admins will have me, I will keep doing that. I don't need your approval. If you think they violate TOS, then alert on them.
Finally, I'll copy and paste them again because I really really mean it:
Support the hell out of your candidate in the primary.

He got some really bad advice from someone.
Part of the side effects of this change in strategy is it opened the flood gates for some of his supporters to get rather nasty about the Clintons. I suspect some of them have been worked up into such anger by the Bernie campaign that it will be difficult for them to walk back.

Some may simply be hurt feelings from the nastiness of the primary season here on DU. If we totaled the number of posts about how great our favorite candidates are, how terrible the non-favored Democratic candidate is, and how terrible the supporters of the non-favored Democratic candidate are, I believe the first type would have the fewest, by far. I don't intend to back the Hillary Clinton campaign if she's the nominee for the general election.
I've been getting good at denying Democrats I don't trust a general-election vote. For example: In 2012, for United States Senate, I denied the incumbent Democrat my vote, due to that U.S. Senator's continued voting support for the PATRIOT Act (and the renewals), and I opted for the nominee from the Green Party.
I don't support Bernie Sanders because I want to personally feel connected to him. I support his vision and what he represents as bold and liberal (and very forward-thinking) policy ideas which used to be represented in the Democratic Party of the 1930s to 1960s. (He's a "radical" only to the ignorant and to the money opportunists, which include the corrupt Corporate News Media.)
Let me drive home the point: I'm not interested in knowingly propping up the DLC Bill Clinton Democratic Party. I want the modern version of what could be a New Deal Franklin Roosevelt Democratic Party.

If for the last 25 years the Democratic Party, particularly the DLC wing of it(now it's just the DNC)hadn't been in the pocket of big banks and the prison industry, not to mention so hawkish on war and small business destroying trade agreements, the American middle class would be larger and more inclusive today, and it wouldn't be so easy for politicians to channel this fear and uncertainty into anger against black and brown people, away from the people who are actually stealing everybody's lunch.
What you seem to think is that the Democratic Party Establishment is the bulwark against this demagoguery. What I think is that two moneyed wings of the establishment are performing some elaborate Kabuki Theater around issues of civil rights, while they both continue to support policies that make the conditions possible for a Donald Trump to successfully pedal hate to a possible nomination. And of course our unconscionably bloated prison system and unscrupulous banking industry that have donated handsomely to democrats have both disproportionately preyed on black and brown Americans, and no surprise, nobody has stopped them.
A vote for Hillary is in my opinion, a vote to keep up the charade while everybody, particularly people of color, get squeezed. I want to hold out hope that this is just her Loooooong game, that she's actually a liberal at heart waiting for the right moment to take the wheel and turn us around, but she's given me enough reason to not believe it.

(15,189 posts)Better off without us. We're better off without YOU! You support a liar and a cheater and your too blind to see it. We DON'T need your kind. You're not a REAL Democrat. You support visiting polls and suppressing the vote. Not against the law YOU say, but we don't like CHEATERS. Fuck them!

(1,748 posts)Many Bernie voters are disgusted with the two party charade and are only here because they see the chance to actually CHANGE something.
But y'all don't see that with all this thumbing your nose bullshit, they won't be the only types exiting the party when all the dust settles. (Like me. Before this year, I would never have imagined I'd be leaving the party after over two decades of voting straight ticket Dem)
So keep it up. Third party voters are needed for local races.

I agree that Trump would be a disaster for the country, but I also believe Hillary would be a disaster as well. There's no "I told you so." I see Hillary as bringing her own set of dangers and she does not make me feel safer than any of the GOP candidates.

Then there seems to be no purpose to your message.
What are you trying to accomplish?

The man has shown he has no reluctance to mock someone with a disability simply because he or she is disabled. He reminds me of schoolyard bullies I used to encounter as a kid.
The GOP has long had the Americans with Disabilities Act in the sights, seeing it as "political correctness" run amok. I definitely don't want a president, Congress, and Supreme Court willing to gut the ADA and undo all the good work the disability rights movement has done these past fifty years.
Edited to add: for the first time in my life I think I agree with Mitt Romney. "Trickle down racism" indeed.
