Democrats to Sanders: Time to wind it downProtracted combat with Hillary Clinton threatens to do real damage in a general election against Donald Trump, senators warn.
By BURGESS EVERETT 03/21/16 05:21 AM EDT
Democratic senators of all stripes are as impressed as they are surprised by Bernie Sanders insurgent campaign.
But the time has come, they say, for Sanders to start winding things down.
After holding their fire on Sanders for the better part of a year, the senators all backers of Hillary Clinton are gently calling on Sanders to face the reality that theres almost no chance hes going to be the Democratic nominee.

(55,894 posts)I'm certain that's true as is your innate good-naturedness.
But not all Sanders supporters are Democrats.
Some (probably many) of Sanders supporters in real life and on the internet are actual Democrats.
But many Sanders supporters in real life and on the internet are not.
I think you missed the posts in this very forum about "blowing things up", for instance.
Or voting Green or Trump.
Or not being able to vote for Clinton.

(23 posts)There is something called law in this country. If you can point out the law wall street violated, there are people who would be glad to throw them into jail.
What you can't do is to make up laws after the fact and prosecute them for that. Why? Because the constitution explicitly forbids ex post factor laws, that's why.
Pitchfork? Those people have guns. If you want another Baltimore riot, be my guest. Just make sure you have the balls to be on the forefront.

(466 posts)Math deals with absolutes. Statistics deals with probabilities. Hillary has less than 2,383 delegates so mathematically Sanders can still win. However based on polling that is highly unlikely but still nevertheless mathematically possible. Polling, not math, says that Sanders can't win.

No, Claire, you bought-and-paid-for shill, Sanders absolutely does NOT need to wind it down. He needs to keep the pressure on the corporate-owned war hawk, especially in the event the FBI and the NSA come to a conclusion that will, effectively, void Clinton's nomination.
Wait - didn't Bernie tie the Queen in Claire's home state? Why, I believe he did.

(28,270 posts)If you are ahead by 300 plus delegates like Hillary is, a tie or close to it is a victory for her.
It keeps the delegate count where it was...Bernie losing, Hillary winning the nomination.

(24,411 posts)In February, this same cast of characters took their fight to CNN and loads of other US outlets--and tried to publicly shame, pressure and bully Elizabeth Warren into voting for Hillary.
Hillary's peanut gallery failed to move Warren. Are these goofballs under the impression that Sanders and his supporters really give a rat's ass about what they think he should do?
These hand wringers need to realize that "We The People" decide when candidates drop out; not a handful of busybodies.
Here's part of their failed campaign to get Warren to endorse Hillary. LOL!

They want Bernie to pull out because either A) there is still a path for him to win or B) he is making voters expect more from the Democratic Party than half-hearted incremental progressive change and full-throttle support for neoliberal budget, economic, and foreign policy.
It is not enough for the Democratic Party to be different on guns, gays, and god. They've got to work for the middle and working class and stop using our military as the brick banks and corporations use to do smash and grab robberies of other countries.

(8,812 posts)1. Time and
2. Her continued exposure.
Neither has been good to her. That's why her lieutenant, Debbie Wasserman-Payday-Loan, tried to limit the number of the debates. That's also why her backers are in such a hurry to pull the plug on further primaries. The longer the campaign continues, the more the cheap greasepaint of inevitability washes off.
Meanwhile, the effect is just the opposite with Bernie. The more time he has and the more exposure he gets, the more the American people realize that he's the real deal, not a calculating unprincipled politician who "evolves" from one campaign stop to the next.
That not only explains the browbeating in threads like these, but also the corporate misledia's effort to either smear or completely ignore Bernie Sanders.

(2,145 posts)He is the messenger and he's going to deliver that message until the end. I guess a lot of people on the right (that includes centrist-right Hillary supporters) just don't get it. It is the message at this point. You're going to see her back off from promises just like Obama did. I live in this country too and I'm proud of the person I supported. In a few years, I wonder if you will be able to say the same?
