"The United States should provide Israel with the most sophisticated defense technology so it can deter and stop any threats. That includes bolstering Israeli missile defenses with new systems like the Arrow Three and Davids Sling. And we should work together to develop better tunnel detection, technology to prevent armed smuggling, kidnapping and terrorist attacks."
As observers noted, as she ran down the list of "evolving threats," the former U.S. secretary of state resorted to common neoconservative talking points, declaring:
As we gather here, three evolving threats Irans continued aggression, a rising tide of extremism across a wide arc of instability, and the growing effort to de-legitimize Israel on the world stage are converging to make the U.S.-Israel alliance more indispensable than ever.
We have to combat all these trends with even more intense security and diplomatic cooperation. The United States and Israel must be closer than ever, stronger than ever and more determined than ever to prevail against our common adversaries and to advance our shared values.
Touting her "deep, personal commitment" to the "Jewish state," Clinton then said that "one of the first things Ill do in office is invite Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin Netanyahu] to visit the White House."'

(11,417 posts)It is a matter of the balance of power in the Middle East.
I would much rather have someone in the White House who knows what the issues are rather than someone who has no experience and runs his campaign like an ideologue with platitudes that mean little when the shit hits the fan and he has to ask someone with experience what the hell to do.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden called on Israel's government on Sunday to demonstrate its commitment to a two-state solution to end the conflict with the Palestinians and said settlement expansion is weakening prospects for peace.
"Israel's government's steady and systematic process of expanding settlements, legalizing outposts, seizing land, is eroding in my view the prospect of a two-state solution," Biden said in a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a leading pro-Israel lobbying group.
Biden said he did not agree with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government that expanded settlements would not interfere with any effort to settle the conflict.
"Bibi (Netanyahu) thinks it can be accommodated, and I believe he believes it. I don't," Biden said.

What is really horrifically fascinating is when her supporters try and paint BERNIE as the bloodthirsty one, over a gun vote.

(1,717 posts)Since the equal worth of all human beings is a hallmark of progressive thought,
if you (or Ms. Clinton) refuse to recognize the rights and humanity of the
Palestinian people - you are not really a progressive.
(Have the Palestinians and their leaders made grievous errors? Of course.
Have the Israelis? Of course.)

(10,472 posts)I'm sorry, but some of the "aghast" and "disgusting" types of sentiment should be turned inwards.
Israel and some of its leaders over the years have been no saints either, but they have always been and always will be an ally to the US.

(1,717 posts)is short hand for fighting back against Israeli occupation and violence.
Under international law - which is ALWAYS ignored by Israel and its backers -
the Palestinians have every right to resist the occupation as they are slowly but
very surely being dispossessed of their homeland.
And the US will "always" be an ally of Israel like we have
"always been at war with East Asia."
