2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Bernie Sanders voters who would choose Trump over Clinton
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/mar/13/bernie-sanders-supporters-consider-donald-trump-no-hillary-clintonThis week the Guardian sought out Sanders fans who are contemplating switching their allegiance to Trump if Hillary Clinton secures the Democratic nomination.
Almost 700 people replied to the call-out, and some 500 of them said they were thinking the unthinkable: a Sanders-Trump switch.
They explained their unconventional position by expressing a variety of passionately held views on their shared commitment for protecting workers and against new wars, on their zeal for an alternative to the establishment, and on their desire to support anyone but Hillary Clinton.
As one respondent, a 34-year-old male IT technician, put it: Bernie and Trump agree a lot on healthcare, Iraq war, campaign finance and trade. I really want to move on to something new, new ideas from outside the box. Maybe Donald Trump can provide that.

(1,306 posts)Edit: Opps kinda off topic, though it may be a good "analogy" for fearing that Democrats are switching over to vote for Trump or will in the general. The primaries are a much different ball game.
Back in May 07, 50% of Clinton supporters said they wouldn't vote for Obama against McCain...[link:http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/05/06/exit-polls-half-of-clintons-supporters-wont-back-obama/|

(17,064 posts)And attempts to brow-beat them into supporting her will simply drive them further away. IDK how she can win the GE with 2/3 of Dem voters (29%) and 1/3 of Independant voters (43%), but carry on.

(10,650 posts)The minority voters are already counted in Hillary's Democratic total.
If she loses the independents, she loses the election.

(11,243 posts)Important to understand that they are not actually Democrats or progressives either. And I am ALLLL the way inside their heads now about how much POWER it gives Bernie Sanders if his supporters send the Dems over the top for a win. Which is not altogether bullshit. And they all have issues that would make it very, very stupid to allow a GOP victory. So even those will probably settle down eventually.
The actual progressives, some are posting pro-Hillary stuff already. And a few are castigating their fellow Sanders supporters for bad behavior toward Clinton too. That is fun.
In 2008, the only friends I had who started with Clinton and did not come around to Obama were also not progressives. Irony, this time they hate Clinton. They are so goddam precious and special, those two. No candidate who can win is ever up to their high, high standards
