2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDisenfranchisement isn't acceptable...
The fact that there were first hand accounts of election fraud and numerous other examples of eligible voters being disenfranchised should be worrisome to all Democrats. This isn't a Sanders v. Clinton issue, this is an issue all of us should be, regardless of who we support, concerned about. AZ is a GOP stronghold where the Republicans ultimately run the election process. Given the evidence, there is a clear case of election fraud or at least 'negligence' on part of those administrators responsible for the vote. Instead wasting our time and energy by accusing Sanders supporters of being sore losers or accusing Clinton of some sort of conspiracy, we should be focusing on ensuring that the AZ Republican party cannot pull this BS in the GE. This was just their test run..

(20,998 posts)...although Arizona has been a red state, it is starting to resemble more purple than red, and the republican powers are not at all happy about it.
This was just a dress rehearsal for the general election.

(20,998 posts)They could not vote because it appears their party affiliation and registration was changed - and NOT BY THEM - to either Independent or Republican. These people voted Democrat in previous elections.
And we know how those "provisional ballots" work... READ: not counted.

(20,998 posts)This is NOT a Hillary vs. Bernie thing!
This is DEMOCRATS being denied the right to cast their ballots!

(53,866 posts)if it were easier for POC to vote, Bernie would be losing in even greater numbers. So yeah, it's def not a Bernie vs Hillary thing, no matter what usuncut tells you.

(3,040 posts)The gutting of the VRA was unacceptable. I have no problem with Hillary getting more votes over Sanders from POC if that meant more were able to vote and more weren't being actively and overtly disenfranchised. I have no problem with a duly elected candidate. That is the beauty of democracy, the people get to vote for whomever they want. I just can't tolerate people having their right to vote stolen from them -- the right to vote transcends individual candidates.

(9,313 posts)And perhaps you told the disenfranchised voters in Ohio in 2004 to just "get over it."
Sure, maybe Congress betrayed our most basic principles when they failed to toss out the unlawfully appointed FL electors on Jan 6, 2001.
Maybe they betrayed us again in 2004, by turning a blind eye to the overwhelming evidence put before them when when Barbara Boxer and Stephanie Tubbs Jones lodged their formal objection to the OH electors on Jan 6, 2005.
Who gives a crap about Bush's theft of those two elections. It's not like there were any negative consequences of those betrayals.

Voting Rights 2016: Native Americans Struggle To Overcome Barriers Ahead Of Arizona Elections
Arizona was one of the states covered under the Voting Rights Act, and when it got gutted, that hurt people here a lot, said Katherine Yell, director of operations for the Democratic Party in Coconino County, Arizona, which is about 27 percent American Indian. Arizona has what I like to call draconian voter ID laws. You have to register in advance at least a month before the election, you have to have a photo voter ID with your permanent address on it, which makes it tough for people who travel for work because theres not a lot of work on the reservations.

This is from March15, Voice of America:
Native American Groups Defend Their Right to Vote
Arizona, which is home to one of the largest Native American populations, in 2014 placed more than 500 registered Navajo voters on what it called a suspense list because they lacked proper street addresses. Indeed, as the Nation noted in 2012, Arizonas voter registration form includes a large box on which Navajo voters can draw the location of their home in order to determine their precinct.

Notice that the quote from the second link looks back to 2012? Ongoing, not candidate specific voter suppression scandal stemming from the overturning of the Voting Rights Act.
This is stuff you should know. But you don't.

(2,331 posts)People thinking Hillary conspired with the Republican legislature and Governor need to have their tin foil hat adjusted. This being said Arizona needs to be challenged and cleaned up because McCain is facing a very tough Democratic candidate and may be picked off in November.
