Related: About this forumNew Details Reveal Possible Voter Suppression in Illinois Primary
The next day, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter who has introduced her at campaign rallies, filed an appeal in Illinois 4th District Appellate Court to prevent late voting. On March 23, the appellate court issued a stay on Judge Vahles injunction, meaning those voters wont get a chance to cast ballots in this primary. Hillary Clinton won Illinois by roughly 35,000 votes, or a slim 1.8 percent margin, effectively splitting delegates with Sanders.
Bernie Sanders won in four of the six Illinois counties that had ballot shortages.
● In Champaign County, Sanders beat Clinton 20,581-10,542 almost a two-to-one margin.
● Bernie Sanders beat Clinton in rural Effingham County 1,247-867.
● Sanders won by 3,391 votes in Madison County, a Democratic Party stronghold.
● Bernie Sanders won 10,365 votes to Clintons 9,255 votes in Sangamon County.
In a phone interview, Adams County States Attorney Jon Barnard said that had there been enough ballots available in those counties, the end result may have been a Sanders win, rather than a Clinton victory.
I think its certainly possible, Barnard told US Uncut. The number of voters that were turned away was in the thousands. Sangamon and Madison [Counties] are huge for Democrats.
Because the Adams County Clerk must certify primary election results by March 29, Barnard said there isnt enough time to appeal the case to the Illinois Supreme Court, effectively disenfranchising thousands of voters.

(1,217 posts)Deja Vu 2000, Florida. Such a convenient excuse to disenfranchise voters. Why can't we get our shit together? I wonder if there is any other recourse for HAVA fed regulations? Contest it, Bernie.

(10,493 posts)Ballot shortages allowed a court ruling to extended hours, but when voters returned to the polls. Many locations were closed, and voters were still turned away at others. Kendall also went for Bernie by a wide margin. Where he also garnered more votes than Trump (red county).
And if Kendall county sounds familiar to you, it should. It's home to Dennis Hassert. Over the past decade this county has season tremendous growth. Much to the dismay of county republicans, who went as far as to invite Sherrif Joe up from AZ a few years back for their summer picnic. For years the new population remained disengaged and rather politically dormant. But as they have settled in and established their families, they have become more politically aware and started shaking up the community. The tug of war has finally begun.
Eta: shortages were also in Kane, Will and McHenry.
Disproportionately minority precincts, but you can also argue easily because of higher turnout. Several counties were run by Republican clerks, that cannot be overlooked. Sangamon was one, Kendall. As were others. Some areas of Dupage had shortages, too (not all), and they have many republican strongholds. So it's just something to keep in mind. I have no doubt what the issue was in those areas.

(10,493 posts)In your spare time reading/research, check out some of the controversy surrounding The school district over here (308) the past few years. The east side of Kendall is actually driven more by the school district boundary vs county. It's a 70sq mile area crossing 3 counties, and 6 towns, with approx 18k students and growing.
The current Superintendent is leaving for Fayetteville after this school year, and he was in Ankenny
iA before here. The obvious stuff will sit on the surface when you search (lawsuits), but dig a bit and you'll see some of the political stuff that was pushed through at the state level (terrifying). He had a free ride with our old board, but we just voted a chunk of them out. Next year we'll purge the last of them. The writing was clearly on the wall for him. So he's off to Walton-world to work his way in to turning public education in to the Walmart of learning. Cheap and easy, not necessary quality or requiring critical thinking.

(24,010 posts)Deja vu Bush junta 2000. Deja vu Bush junta 2004. Deja vu all over again, now--BY A DEMOCRAT who seems to have bots all over the map screwing over likely Sanders voters.
Somebody in another thread--I just read it, can't remember which (reading a lot of threads)--suggested (whether humorously or not, I don't know) that Clinton is exactly the kind of unscrupulous candidate we want fighting Trump. Har-har-har. But I'm not ready to go there yet--that our country is just so lost we need fraud to fix it. Makes you wonder, though. Are we that lost? Is our democracy over--really, fini, no more, no saving it by honest means?

Even then, you never know what the hell they will do with your ballot.
But at least I get to avoid long lines, last-minute hassles, and these forms of voter suppression we are now seeing like "running out of ballots." WTF
