(12,530 posts)that it's also the job of the underdog to point out that the frontrunner is functioning as a coward? Because that's actually a thing that's done. There is one way around it, however. You guessed it--she could agree to the debate.

(15,805 posts)Why would the front runner allow themselves to be manipulated or steered into giving the runner up an opportunity to advance? She has nothing to gain in debating Sanders, but as the 2nd place candidate it would certainly might give him a boost. That would be an unforced error on Clinton's part, and she's savvy enough not to give her opponent any chance to look like he's in position to challenge her lead.

(12,530 posts)Read again. In addition to having a chance to actually show that her policies are better than his (and she should want to do this, yes?), she also has a chance to keep from being labelled a coward. We're back to Politics 101 again, and the coward label is ALWAYS implicit in that particular transaction. Don't want to be called a coward? Then debate. If you're far enough ahead to ride out any storm created by the refusal to debate, then that's the calculus you've gone with. There's one valve handle that can be turned here--debate or don't.

Personally I want Bernie to win so he can just continue doing what he is doing, and then it is a win win regardless of which one gets the nomination.
The last thing this makes Hillary is a coward, but like you say, politics 101, duh.

Campaign for her?
I welcome you if so, just seems unlikely.

(53,475 posts).... I will hold my nose really, really tight and vote against the Republican nominee.
I will not campaign for her, nor I will not put a Hillary sign in my yard nor I will not send her a dime. She can leet Goldman Sachs fund her campaign. Or she can fund it herself. Hell, she's got plenty of dough.
And in case you haven't noticed, POTUS isn't the only office up for grabs this year. We've got a State Supreme Court race here in Wisconsin that is critical, Russ Feingold is running for Senate again and we've got a great guy to run for Assembly here in Wisconsin AD 40.
I can spend my political energies and meager donations on those candidates whom I believe will support the policies I support. Hillary doesn't do that, nor has she shown the kind of character traits I expect in any politician who will get my support.

Never in my life would I have ever thought I would phonebank, donate, go to volunteer sessions. Thanks Bernie for igniting a Bern in me to try and fix this country.

Just think of all the "misspeaks" she can deliver in one more debate.

I think that her attitude probably explains a lot of why she found it so easy to hurt so many in countries she has no business in.

(55,981 posts)Sanders says we need to strengthen SS, and they think it's a right wing conspiracy. They prefer to watch Clinton tap dance around the question. "We need to think about a way in which we can look at the possibility of doing something now or in the future to assure that SS is a program going forward. And I feel strongly about that."
"And we shouldn't rush in too quickly to help people suffering, but change medical marijuana from Alpha tier to Tier 3 divided by something tiery to allow big pharma to provide more study so we can be absolutely certain that.... Sorry lost my train of thought. Please make your check out for $250,000 payable to cash."

An authentic one.
That's another reason that Bernie is the better choice, now and in the general election. We know where he stands. We know he's consistent.
Who is going to fight Climate Change, like the end of the world scenario it is quickly becoming?
Who is going to really fight for some kind of economic prosperity for all Americans, not just the few?
Who is going to keep us from our usual interventionist ways in too much war?
Who is really going to be steadfast in fighting racial injustice?
I know my answer, and I remain confident (through his actions and words over so many years) that he will remain true to all these causes.
