2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat a Hillary superdelegate has to live with thanks to you guys....
EDITED TO ADD: Make up your mind, guys. It's a given that I suck for posting this, but do I suck because I shouldn't accuse people on DU of doing such a horrible thing, or do I suck because it's a good thing?:large
Jared Polis (D-CO) got this with his takeout order. And this is one of the kinder messages he's gotten.

(1,048 posts)Superdelegates in my opinion shouldn't even exist so I'm not pulling out the violins. Yes, if there are any people who are threatening superdelegates or being vicious then thats one thing but just like you contact your congressperson when you have an issue with a bill they supported or a stance they are taking, this is no different.

Super delegates should know how we feel!

(11,417 posts)Does he condone the harrasment and bullying by his supporters?
He did a month or two ago.
It's hard to have respect for a campaign that claims to be superior when it's supporters try to intimidate folks

We live in a Representative Democracy - as stated in the Constitution of the United States of America.

(39,451 posts)Is it bullying to contact your elected representative when they are using money slotted for public schools to fund the private prisons?
Is it bullying to contact your elected representative when they say that want to bomb Iran?
No it is not.
And it sure is not bullying to write a handwritten note to your elected official.
My gosh.
Not only do we live in a representative democracy, we also have the freedom of speech.

(20,176 posts)If Rep. Polis wants to not be addressed and contacted about his convention vote as a superdelegate, he has options:
1.) He can resign his seat and thus his superdelegate vote. (Not realistic, I'd think he was an idiot if he did this...but it is an option and I'm going to cover all options.)
2.) He can declare his intention in writing to the DNC chair to abstain his superdelegate vote and have a copy printed in the newspaper of the largest circulation in his district. Interestingly, there are rules and bylaws for this...it's an immediate and non-reversable action. He would have no superdelegate vote at the convention. Doing so would lower the total number of delegates needed to secure the nomination by 0.5, which rounds to 1. It would remove any reasons for any campaign's supporters to write him...he'd have the same 1 primary vote in his precinct for the nomination as every other registered Democrat.
3.) He can change his intended vote. I then expect Clinton supporters would start lobbying him to switch back.
4,) He can state that he's not going to be swayed and there is no point in anybody trying to lobby him to their side. This probably deters nobody.
5.) He can accept that this is part of his job, the same as all those letters he and every other representative to attempt to persuade him to their position on pending legislation or governmental actions.

(2,211 posts)You also failed to post the entire article, so I'll do it for you. Here is the paragraph you noticeably left out:
While Polis has endorsed Clinton and told the Daily Camera last year she would be a "strong leader" as president, Sanders won Colorado's Democratic caucus and received nearly twice as many votes as Clinton in Boulder County, which is in Polis' district.

(39,451 posts)constituent. Whew!
C'mon people, get a grip.
I call John McCain or email his office just about every month when he does something that I do not like. He was elected to represent me & it is my civic duty to tell him when he is not.
Does he ever listen? haha. But that is not going to stop me from expressing my concerns.
I'm sure you wouldn't want to silence his constituents, would you?

Something like this:
Dear Sir.
I know you are a super delegate who is planning to vote for Secretary Clinton.
Please consider the voters of (Insert state) who overwhelmingly selected Bernie Sanders and let their voices be heard through your vote. Thank you and have a nice day.

(3,991 posts)It's not like they're all guys or bros. Getting close to half of all Democratic Party voters and a huge chunk of independents, as well as a chunk of republicans. Men, women, young, old, white, POC..."you guys" need to stop lumping all Bernie supporters together into one ugly unrealistic stereotype.
Besides, if you haven't noticed, there's more snark being dealt by the Hillary crowd these days, just audit a few posts, you'll see. "You guys" are behaving as poorly, if not more.
On top of that, super delegates, IMO, undermine the democratic form with an authoritarian bent, as close to 60% of them are DNC.

(14,559 posts)Polis is a good guy but he needs to shed that Third Way skin ASAP because the writing is on the wall here in CO. There are quite a few people talking about 'primary-ing' Bennet from the left, not this time, but next time he runs, and he's not the only one. People here are the same as people throughout the USA. We're tired of politicians getting elected, doing some socially liberal things that don't address our kitchen table issues, and then passing laws (like the TPP fast track) that will cost us millions of jobs. Just like NAFTA, CAFTA and GATS. Did you know that the provisions in GATS are what kept Obama and the Dems from passing Single Payer in 2009 when they could have?
HOW, HOW, HOW is this any good at all for you and I?????
I want my tax dollars used for stuff that actually benefits me, not domestic spying, forever war, war on drugs, privatized prisons and military mercenaries. All that is utter shit as far as any benefit my family might glean from it.
So, Jared, you're a good guy, BUT GET WITH THE PROGRAM.
