2016 Postmortem

TALKING POINTS 101: If you think the recriminations between dedicated and loyal Democrats and progressive liberals are getting hot and heavy, try and figure out a way to get the right-wing pigs to see your particular point of view... and good luck with that, too.
If the Bernie Sanders supporters and Hillary Rodham Clinton people can't get their shit together, HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO CONVINCE THE REPUBLICANS TO SEE YOUR POINT OF VIEW?
You aren't.
You are going to God-damn FAIL, lest you can make some fucking compromises, people.
"But, Del! My principles... "
Fuck your principles. This is OUR nation we're talking about.
It is bigger than you or me. This is about our kids, and our children's kids.
OUR FUTURE.
The GOP are going to end up taking this thing - THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN WIN IN NOVEMBER - and no one is going to 'learn' the lesson you want them to presumably 'learn'.
The ONLY lesson that will sink in is that Republicans prevail when Democrats can't get on the same fucking page. Argue your case NOW, but hold hands later, 'cause that's how we get shit done. It is the ONLY way we get shit done.
Am I coming in loud and clear?
(1) We steer the party in the direction we want during the primary elections, and,
(2) We circle the fucking wagons during the General Election.
Learn it, LIVE IT. Rinse, Repeat.

(4,187 posts)Assuming that a woman president means the person really running the country will be her husband.
The first time I heard this argument, it was in 2008. It was voiced by an elderly Japanese man. Despite having spent a lot of time learning Japanese and living in Japan, and thus knowing something about Japanese culture, I was nonetheless shocked by the sexism of it. Never did I think I would be hearing self-avowed liberals make the same argument eight years later.
The person I support is Hillary Clinton. Not her husband. Please don't assume that she can't think for herself.

(4,187 posts)Pointing out that you assume a Hillary Clinton presidency would mean a repeat of Bill Clinton's policies is "non-responsive micro-agression"? Your name-calling and non-response says more about the weakness of the point you made than it does about me or the point I made. You're also hurting the cause of all the people who object to true instances of micro-agression by applying the term inappropriately.

(385 posts)I posted three very recent articles from three distinct sources. Not a single story made the implied parenthetical that Hillary would govern as Bill Clinton governed.
Your false accusation of sexism was a weak ad hominem attack that was completely non-responsive.
Now you are trying to flip the script with additional ad hominem attacks on my character.
I hate to disappoint you, but I am not impressed with high school debate tactics.

(1,198 posts)election, and over 80% of those will vote for the Democratic nominee.
That is true no matter who we nominate.
We win or lose depending on whether our nominee inspires turnout from new voters who may or may not show up and motivates independents and Working Family Party and Green Party and liberal Libertarian voters to join with us.
There's no need to browbeat the Democrats - most of them will support the nominee. We need to expand beyond that core to win.

(2,145 posts)First of all, I believe Clinton will win should she be the nominee. What is your evidence that it will be a Republican win if we are not altogether? The right has it's divisions as well. And demanding that intelligent people who have the privilege of voting their values and principles vote out of fear is offensive to me.
And just between us, I'm more afraid of Ted than Donald. But neither one is going to force my vote. Well, maybe Cruz...
