HRC Talks Gun Violence Courting Milwaukee Blacks, Days After Fundraiser W/ NRA Lobbyist

MILWAUKEE — With the Wisconsin primary approaching, Hillary Clinton reached out to one of her most loyal constituencies on Tuesday, speaking passionately to African-American parents about the gun violence and clashes with the police that have plagued their communities.

“The epidemic of gun violence spares no one, but it is concentrated in areas that are short on hope and where we still face the effects of systemic racism,” Mrs. Clinton said at the Tabernacle Community Baptist Church in an area of this city where the deaths of young black men to gun violence are particularly prevalent. “We can’t go on like this, my friends.”

Sitting onstage with mothers who had lost children to clashes with the police or guns, Mrs. Clinton checked off the statistics. “We lose 90 people a day to gun violence, that is 33,000 Americans a year,” she said. “If anything else, a disease were killing 33,000 Americans a year, we would come together and say ‘How do we deal with this?’”

For all the emotional impact of the event, speaking about gun violence has also proved politically beneficial to Mrs. Clinton. The issues of gun control and criminal justice reform have been central to Mrs. Clinton’s campaign, as she relies on the bulwark of support from black voters across the South and in the Midwest. She has consistently criticized Senator Bernie Sanders for his record on gun control measures as a senator representing Vermont.

With Mrs. Clinton’s prospects in next Tuesday’s primary, where she lost by 18 percentage points to Senator Barack Obama in 2008, appearing dim, the black voters concentrated in Milwaukee can help deliver delegates and cushion a potential loss to Mr. Sanders. She is also looking to shore up her support among blacks ahead of the April 19 New York primary, with a rally scheduled in Harlem on Wednesday.

Milwaukee is 40 percent black, compared to the state’s 13.2 percent overall black population, according to census data, and has been the site of recent clashes between the police and unarmed black men. The local congresswoman,....

this is just 9 days after having a fundraiser with NRA lobbyists:

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has called her support for gun control laws a key differentiator from her opponent Bernie Sanders, who she claims isn’t tough enough on the industry. But in mid-March, a Clinton campaign fundraiser will be co-hosted by a lobbyist whose clients have included the National Rifle Association (NRA).

As David Sirota reported Monday in the International Business Times, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta is a co-host and the guest of honor at a fundraising lunch in the nation’s capital on March 21.

One of the other co-hosts is Jeff Forbes of the lobbying firm Forbes-Tate.

Forbes has represented the NRA since 2009 and as of the last quarter of 2015 was still registered to lobby for the organization. On his lobbying disclosure, Forbes wrote that he was signed up to lobby for “Issues related to 2nd Amendment rights, regulation and gun control, and tax and appropriations related to same; issues related to corporate tax reform.”

During the 2013 push for universal background checks, Forbes was one of a phalanx of Democratic Party lobbyists employed by the NRA to kill that legislation.

Forbes is an alumnus of the Bill Clinton administration and later worked as chief of staff to former Montana Democratic Sen. Max Baucus.

These guys are the hired guns in DC, pedaling influence on all sides of the street for those who can afford them. Clinton said something about standing up to the NRA & Wall street, was she just kidding?

How else do they just see this and shrug it off? Politics as usual? I'm not sure how or when this ever became the norm/acceptable.

avaricious financial dealings and other political issue and just don't care. But, since her "tricky" moves are common knowledge, what else can explain how she continues to get votes?
