An observation about the NY primary...

speaking as somebody who grew up at the very far left of this map... There's a sort of unconscious tendency for non-NY-ers to think "New York City" when they think of NY, but it's a pretty big state, and 95% of it bears no resemblance to NYC per se, either culturally or politically. In fact, western NY much more resembles, say, Minnesota, or WI, (Swedes, dairy farming and all), than it does the east coast.

I don't even claim to know what it all means, but if somebody attempted to craft a political strategy, or political analysis, of New York, and only considered NYC, I feel pretty confident their models would be off.

Outside NYC you have basically a western extension of New England, the agricultural Midwest, the Rust Belt, and areas that resemble Montana and the Mountain States, with the eastern coastal on Long Island and a little bit of Canada and the Pacific Northwest thrown in.

And upstate NY is a lot more like Pennsylvania and Ohio than it is like Minnesota. More Italians than Swedes.

But I think upstate margins will be overwhelming for Sanders, the City will be very close, and LI/Westchester is the question.

Rural counties will go for Sanders and the upstate cities will be battlegrounds but they favor Hillary.

Fuhgettaboutit Bernie! ( Good luck to Bernie too)

Although Hillary will be banking on large Black/Hispanic population in NYC, her chief bulwark is in the rest of the state. I expect her to do great in places like Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Westchester and Long Island.

Btw I'm new here, can I get a warm welcome?

and to some degree still is. Upstate is Sanders' backyard.

Lots of Repubs but this is a closed primary. I'm upstate and the bumperstickers I see are either Trump or Sanders. There is no Clinton, Cruz or anything else.

Sanders people have been out since last year. Active and visible. No Clinton campaign at all.

A Sanders event tonight with an all ages Bernie look alike contest:
