2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA few months ago I was on the fence as whether to back Hillary or Bernie
After seeing a post about how Bernie was fine flying coach and even taking a middle seat, I went with Bernie. Over the last number of months the amount of Bernie hate, lies and attacks by Hillary supporters has made it harder for me to get behind her. I am sure many here are having second thoughts about whether they will be able to work for Hillary if she wins the nomination. It is not too late to turn it around I am requesting Hillary supporters to please reach out now and stop trying to tear down Bernie and his ideas, just run a positive campaign on Hillary's ideas and if you feel the need to attack direct those feeling toward Cruse Trump and the Republicans. Bernie supports are not the enemy they are the future of this party.

(23,593 posts)Bernie Sanders Flying Regularly on Private Planes
The carbon footprint? We have a lot of people to see and that is the best way to do it.
Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders fans of raising taxes on the rich have taken to flying on private planes. Sanders who likes to use the Twitter hashtag #SandersOnAPlane has now taken to flying private regularly.
As ABC News reported,
This holiday season, Sanders changed his routine and flew almost exclusively on private chartered planes with members of his traveling staff -- taking at least four trips. Most recently, the campaign confirmed, a Gulfstream 200 took the Senator and some staff from Burlington, Vermont two days after Christmas and then from Las Vegas, Nevada to Moline, Illinois for campaign events in eastern Iowa.
A private jet also took Sanders and staff from Omaha, Nebraska to Chicago, Illinois.
The response of the self-described socialist to criticism of the carbon footprint he's laying down by flying private planes? The carbon footprint? As opposed to what? We are trying to get around Iowa and get around the country as best we can. So we have a lot of people to see and that is the best way we can do it.
His campaign spokesman added,
Bernie is running for president of the United States and his campaign requires him to travel to many communities in Iowa and New Hampshire and other places as efficiently as possible to meet voters and to answer their questions. While he has used commercial airlines on almost all occasions, there are circumstances when using charter airplanes is the best way for him to get around the country and communicate with as many people as possible.

(CNN)Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders began receiving Secret Service protection on Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security said.
Nothing wrong with either, just setting the record straight.

(2,353 posts)Everytime you denigrate a Sanders voter or speak to them condescendingly you are pushing them more and more likely to not vote for Clinton. As a result that would mean they are magic +1 for Trump (by your own admission)...
As a result that means by continuing to belittle Sanders supporters you are in effect supporting Trump more than anybody here.

(3,226 posts)After I listen to Hillary being grilled for over 9 hrs. by Republicans in congress she had me on board I started to look into Bernie after being locked out of the Hillary group when I suggested that an attack on Bernie's family would not be helpful to Hillary. It is interesting that my journey to becoming a Bernie supporter started with that lock out.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I still will vote for Hillary, should Bernie not

(3,226 posts)Look hard at both but understand that our party will benefit from all of the people who are backing Bernie and smearing them will not help Hillary if she become our nominee. Since she is right now in the lead I would like it if her supporters here on DU would take the high road. It is not easy to do and as much as I may try I have not always been able to do it myself. Please understand I do not feel there is anything "nefarious" about looking at both or even supporting one over the other.

(3,226 posts)Bernie's flying habits showed me that not only did he have good ideas he also understood how must people live he "does not just talk the talk he walks the walk" seeing those photos was the tipping point. As I pointed out in post 24 "After I listen to Hillary being grilled for over 9 hrs. by Republicans in congress she had me on board I started to look into Bernie after being locked out of the Hillary group when I suggested that an attack on Bernie's family would not be helpful to Hillary" my investigation of Bernie's proposals after the lock out lead me to see that I should give him equal weight in my choice of candidates. It was seeing his "airplane flying habits" that tipped me to his side. As I said it is the amount of Bernie hate, lies and attacks by Hillary supporters that has made it harder for me to get behind her now. I had been a supporter of Hillary before but I am sure that I am not alone in feeling it harder to get behind her mostly because of the tactics which her campaign and supporters are employing. One of the best things about Bernie that I like is his continually taking the high road. I feel it would help Hillary a lot if she would do the same and insist that her people do as well.
