2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA couple months ago, it was reported that 150 FBI agents were working the Clinton Foundation angle
not emails (and that some of them were temporary). Recently it became 150 agents investigating the emails which has now been reported as inaccurate.
Okay, but what ever happened to the 150 FBI agents working on the Clinton Foundation, SOS business angle?
Do they want us to be confused? I guess that is one way to try to discredit an earlier report without actually attacking that report. Hmm...

(12,685 posts)that 150 are working on the emails (by Clinton friendly tabloids), and then having them walk that back.
Seems they are trying to discredit that original reporting in a roundabout way without actually attacking the substance of what was first reported.

Washington Post Corrects Faulty Report That Nearly 150 FBI Agents Are Investigating Clinton Emails
Fed Source: About 12 FBI Agents Working on Clinton Email Inquiry
The Post updated the figure on Tuesday, stating that while the "FBI will not provide an exact figure," there are "fewer than 50" FBI personnel involved in the case.
But a former federal law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the Clinton investigation tells MSNBC an estimate anywhere near 50 agents is also off base.

"There are currently about 12 FBI agents working full-time on the case," says the source, who would only speak anonymously about an open investigation.

(10,559 posts)The key word is "currently" and that involves the current stage of the investigation. Remember that there were over 60k emails to wade through, plus the team needed to retrieve the 30k that were deleted, plus the team chasing Clinton Foundation tie-ins, plus the team that extradited the hacker, etc.

A former FBI official, also speaking anonymously, says many in the law enforcement community view the large estimates of people assigned to the case as completely improbable.
"147 was such a ridiculous number," said the source, adding that 50 also sounded unrealistic for this kind of inquiry. "You need an act of terrorism to get 50 agents working on something," said the former FBI official.

(10,559 posts)It is reasonable that a large number of agents have been working on this at different points in the investigation with appropriate hand offs as things have progressed.
That is called delegation and allocation of resources.
How many people do you think were involved in retrieving the server AFTER it was tracked down from storage and appropriate court orders for getting it were issued? Two men and a truck?
How many people were involved in retrieving the deleted emails - Sid from the IT group working through his lunch hour?
60k emails - three staff for a week or so?
And seriously, do you expect the whole dang country to wait for this team of "stalwart twelve" to get things done or is it more likely that pieces of the project have been pieced out in order to get through it as quickly as possible because "national security and a presidential candidate"?
If *at least* a hundred staff HADN'T touched this since last year, I would assume the FBI folk were incompetent (and I don't). In IT world, a *small* project could easily consume a dozen people for six months to a year without anyone leaving the building for interviews.
Like I said, twelve full timers CURRENTLY seems reasonable, but don't automatically downplay the leaks from before. Healthy cynicism is reasonable, but this case is getting (appropriately) national scrutiny, so doing thing CORRECTLY is the best way for credibility from all concerned at the end.

(4,762 posts)The FBI doesn't have 150 agents to spare for bullshit. That's far more than work most major crimes involving loss of life and interstate conspiracy. I'm positive the "147 agents" meme is pure bullshit fantasy thinking by Bernistas.
But let them carry on. Any day now they'll get their Fitzmas.
They are waiting for Godot. She's not getting indicted.
