2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOnly one candidate has said Single Payer Healthcare will never come to pass. Let's not forget.
Bernie's Better Idea will never come to pass if we elect Clinton apparently. So I don't care what Bernie said when Obama stonewalled any chance at public option. This speaks volumes about what kind of "progressive" Hillary is. We can't forget because she will change her positions like dust in the wind.

(45,251 posts)look how that turned out.
Once a powerful Democrat rings a bell like that, or like cutting or privatizing Social Security or Medicare, Republicans will NEVER allow that bell to be unrung. And other New Democrats will line up and "cave."

(11,417 posts)You owe it to us to tell the whole story.
Don't just say Hillary said this or that. Tell us why she is wrong.
And don't give me that revolution stuff I want to know really how Bernie will do what Hillary says he can't!
How? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I want to know when and not 'He is talking about it"
And not "other countries do it"
HOW? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bernie is 74, If he is re-elected he has 8 years to give us single payer. Given the make up of our country and government, HOW? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first step is saying yes I support Single Payer Healthcare... Not yelling defiantly, "No We Can't". What the hell kind of leader is that? Oh it is too hard so let us not even push for that policy... Give me a break.

(11,417 posts)It is people like Hillary that will get things done while you all and Bernie will be still telling us fairy tales.

(2,353 posts)We need a leader who will inspire with bold policy agendas... who isn't afraid to stand toe to toe with Republicans and demand middle class Americans finally get their fair share.

(11,417 posts)reasonable plan as to how it will happen.
And "other countries do it" and "we need a revolution" is not being honest with people.

(5,861 posts)Universal healthcare polls with the majority of the public, therefore that is the center position. It is not a leftist position today. It is only going to get more popular with advocacy.
Not supporting it is a fringe position and politicians who don't will eventually lose their jobs. A strong advocate with a national pulpit is needed to hold them accountable.

(11,417 posts)To get anything we want we all have to get Dems in both chambers. That means we have to vote.
We need a national dialogue on health care and single payer needs to be really studied and all aspects using this country as the model find out what we need to know and understand.
I also expect it to take longer than this election cycle, and Sanders may not even live to see it.
But you can't win if you don't fight. And you have only lost when you decide to give up.

(11,417 posts)Attacking Hillary for saying it isn't going to happen soon is poor public relations
GeorgiaPeanuts
(2,353 posts)She didn't say soon/now... She said it will "NEVER EVER COME TO PASS". Such an inspiring leader, going to the bargaining table with Repukes and starting at the halfway mark to what they want.

(26,549 posts)By giving the approximately 40% of the electorate that does not bother to vote because "both sides are the same" enough of a difference for them to vote again.
Depends on how many status quo Democrats undermine the effort to differentiate us from the Republicans.
The "make up of our country" supports single payer by a significant majority.
The make up of our government does not, because our party is absolutely terrified of actually representing us. Hence that 40% that don't bother to vote.
Now, what's Clinton's plan to get the Republicans to change from 60+ votes to dismantle the ACA to voting to strengthen it?

(11,417 posts)We need to control the government so we can pass legislation and get support in the SCOTUS.
We need to control state legislatures too.
It takes all of us working together and all of us voting in the poor system we have to make it better.
I am sure Hillary's plan is to elect more Dems. That is why when I give to her campaign as I have done monthly since before she announced, I am also contributing to other Dem races. We are trying to build the government that single payer can have a chance in.
