Hillary at the New York $15 minimum wage event yesterday

"Feelings have to be matched with politics. He (Andrew Cuomo) had to put together the votes. Now some people get bored by that kind of talk. Don't bother me with the details. Let's just make it sound good. Let's just feel good. Well I think we'd just be sounding and feeling good if it hadn't been for the hard work and the incredible commitment that the governor made to this issue."

It was not just the words, but Hillary's smug and mocking delivery of them. No mention that Bernie has been for a $15 minimum wage everywhere but Hillary thinks it should only be $12 nationally and state and local governments can make it higher locally if they want.

And note the difference in how Bernie and Hillary talk about this issue, which Bernie talks about in every stump speech. He talks about how change always comes from the bottom up. He talks about fast food workers at McDonald's and Burger King going on strike and demanding a living wage. This movement has been going on for years. Hillary, Ms. Top Down we know what is best, gives the credit to the Governor Andrew Cuomo for his "incredible commitment."

From the New York Times: "The aggressive tone struck by the governor — his voice straining with emotion — was a departure from statements made in March, when he called $15 an hour too high."

From the New York Times on September 10, 2015: "Cuomo Pivots Again as He Seeks a $15 Minimum Wage"

<Mr. Cuomo’s proposal, which would require legislative approval in Albany, was another pivot by the governor on the issue of mandating how much employers can pay their workers. Just six months ago, he said $15 an hour, the minimum that fast-food workers demanded, was “too high,” and proposed $10.50 as an alternative.>

So Cuomo pivoted and followed after trying to water down this movement, and Hillary gives him the credit in the end.

The minimum wage in New York City won't actually be $15 per hour until 2018. In surrounding counties, it won't be $15 until 2021. In less expensive parts of the state, the minimum wage will only be up to $12.50 by 2021 and to $15 a few years later than that.
