The Anti-Noise Machine

I’m sure that many people here received an e-mail from Jeff Weaver, the Sanders Campaign Manager, regarding an event last night in Colorado. But, for those who may have missed it, I would like to share some of its contents.

Last night, Hillary hosted a fund-raiser in a state that has already caucused. The top seats went for $27,000; others paid $2,700 for their seats.

“But a crazy thing happened when she got ready to speak. Her campaign actually ‘turned on a static noise machine’ pointed at the press so they couldn’t hear what she was saying to the financial elite in attendance.”

I’m sure that the Clinton supporters on this forum think that is just dandy. I’m not as confident that they would have approved if, say, George W. Bush had done the same thing in 2000 or 2004. But they seem to use an ethical slide-ruler to measure what is okay for a candidate to do.

As a supporter of Bernie Sanders, I find that objectionable. It reinforces the belief that Hillary’s message to the elite is not only different from her message to the peasants classes, but has to be kept extra-super-secret.

Peace,
H2O Man

Keeping what is said to the rich people who benefit so much from government action secret is undemocratic. Since we don't know what was said, we can't tell if there's anything criminal to worry about.

Here's why I think that there may be something to think about:

The Clintons Have Not Changed: The Clintonian War on the IGs

By William K. Black
February 23, 2016 Bloomington, MN

Secretary Hillary Clinton is asking Democratic voters to believe that she has experienced a “Road to Damascus” conversion from her roots as a leader of the “New Democrats” – the Wall Street wing of the Democratic Party. When exactly this conversion occurred is never stated, but an interesting fact has emerged that demonstrates it did not occur during her service as the Secretary of State. A Wall Street Journal story provides the key facts, but none of the analysis.

Newly released emails indicate that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her top staff were involved in the selection process for the State Department’s internal watchdog, a position that ultimately went unfilled throughout her four-year tenure.

The WSJ’s angle is that such involvement in the selection of the Inspector General (IG) is a threat to the IG’s vital independence. True, and also true as the story notes that Hillary was far from rare as an agency or department head in seeking to select behind the scenes the supposedly independent IGs.

The function of the IG is to “speak truth to power.” Naturally, “power” hates IGs with a purple passion. Government leaders are most likely to hate having its abuses made public by IG when the government leader is secretly acting in concert with immensely powerful private leaders for their mutual benefit at the expense of the public.

What the WSJ missed is that the Clinton’s, for decades, have sought to destroy the independence and effectiveness of the IGs precisely because of the threat that they pose of blowing the whistle on these abuses. The Obama administration, of course, is famous for its prosecutions of those who blow the whistle on such abuses. The real story is not that Hillary attempted to select a lap dog as IG – the real story is that for her entire tenure as Secretary, four years, she left unfilled the leadership position of the only institution in the State Department dedicated to maintaining integrity and preventing the abuse of public power to aid cronies. That aid, of course, comes with the clear expectation that the cronies will make the head of the State Department wealthy as soon as she or he steps down. There is no possible defense for that, and it does not happen accidentally. The primary blame goes to President Obama, who made no nomination for the position for the entire four years. It wasn’t Republican intransigence that explains this scandal.

which of the "national reporters" were at the event? It doesn't seem that fund-raisers tend to get much coverage, especially those held in states where the primary/caucus is past.

The fact that no "national reporter" has documented what Hillary said to her friends and associates at Goldman Sachs is not evidence, for example, that she never spoke to them. But if we followed the "logic" posed here, we could certainly conclude that she: (a) threatened to prosecute them for breaking the law; (b) demanded that they return the money they stole from the American public; and (c) has never even heard of Goldman Sachs.

Consistency is very important when trying to sell a persona. If you happily accept the single sourced gossip of Capehart it is not consistent to then demand that other stories have several sources and specific sorts of sources. ...like election.

But, you're right, over 100 recs from folks who likely couldn't identify a 'noise machine' placed in front of them, but willing to believe an uncorroborated and oblique description of one from a lone newsman. I think it's the function of an echo chamber of supporters who haven't been held as accountable as they've rendered Hillary supporters' posts - with punitive hides for 'debunked' charges from the Clinton camp and free passes for unproven and often false accusations from the Sanders contingent here.

The imbalance has emboldened them to talk down to Clinton supporters, questioning their values and integrity while promoting their own as superior and unassailable.

But, yeah, this 'noise machine' accusation is some serious silly-season shite.

Somebody with skillz and stuff should take a pdf and apply an airbrush or image randomizer to the text (probably have to convert to bitmap), so that it's unreadable. Then send that out as Hillary releasing her transcripts.

What else can one say about what drives her.

Bernie is "About the People." What better contrast can there be?

As the Campaign goes on it...becomes more and more obvious.

As You Say:

As a supporter of Bernie Sanders, I find that objectionable. It reinforces the belief that Hillary’s message to the elite is not only different from her message to the peasants classes, but has to be kept extra-super-secret.

She tells BLM that she will only talk to white people. Bill says that BLM is giving comfort to murderers. She says I don't care that people are dying over not being able to cover co-pays. She says that free college is a bad idea cuz rich people might take advantage. She takes money from some of the worst industries as far as environmental abuse goes. She says Iraq was a business opportunity or maybe it was Libya or both doesn't matter bombs for bucks even once is terrible. So what exactly could she have said at that function that would be worse than what we already know?

that many of our friends here have actually made themselves believe what is unbelievable. Indeed, they are willing to accept that which is unacceptable. And they are willing -- no! eager -- to vote for a candidate who represents the very things they would oppose in any other candidate.

The media's total dismissal of Jack Ruby killing Lee Harvey Oswald being a conspiracy was a real eye-opener. They never touched it but instead went with the "Ruby wanted to save Jackie the anguish of a trial" bullshit.

After that, Gulf of Tonkin smelled from the get-go.

She and her husband produce insubstantial speech that lacks meaning and solidity designed to misinform allies, ingratiate themselves to donors, and put down progressives. It is a style that destabilizes American political rhetoric.

Two of my cousins and I put some more hours in going door-to-door today. The people we encountered all had one thing in common: they want real change in our nation. We covered a neighborhood that combines "low income" and "student" housing.

Maybe she learned a lesson from Mitt Romney's damaging "47 percent" comment to his "wealthy contributors only"?

Bet Mitt wishes he had the foresight to use a noise machine at this event with his wealthy contributors:
