an outlying suburb of Denver. The amphitheater only holds 10,000 people. The Romney team apparently couldn't give enough tickets away free through their CO offices where they screen people for supporters, but when they put out a press announcement that free tickets would be available at the door, throngs of people showed up trying to get in for the free Kid Rock concert. Thousands were turned away. In the news clip of the event, I saw people walking out as Romney was speaking. Yeah he was the real draw alright.

I have no doubt in my mind that the red rock "rally" was staged.
Romney has never drawn crowds like that.. even when he has
bussed in supporters for the cameras.

my guess is that not only were those people given free tickets to the concert,
but they were also paid money to show up.

romney's approval numbers are no where near President Obama's
and that is why there is a stark difference in the sizes of their rallies
and the enthusiasm of their supporters. Romney's crowds are mostly
white mormons, and Obama's crowds are people of all religions, all
enthnicities and all walks of life. THAT is the difference.

and yes they are all white. I don't know why you'd think it was staged? He has supporters here - even my low info doctor who voted for Obama last time is now a Romney guy.

It's close here and we also have a SOS who had done everything in his power to disenfranchise Democrats. Even today coming out with a list of 300 illegal voters. Last week, it was 14 - none who ever voted, and now it's jumped to 300???

....SNIP.. Roughly 10,000 people packed into the concert venue west of Denver, with thousands more turned away at the door. Traffic leading into Red Rocks gridlocked in the hours before the event. The lines to go through security and enter the venue wound through the parking lots.
It was the Romney campaign's biggest rally in Colorado by far, and the campaign pulled out the stops for it......
Supporters in the audience clacked together Thundersticks, creating a sound akin to a stampede. Musicians Kid Rock and Rodney Atkins warmed up the crowd. Colorado Rockies legend Todd Helton showed up to give his endorsement. And New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, a rising star in the Republican Party, also was on the bill, telling the crowd: "There's a guy backstage who has the answers to the problems we face." ....... Kid Rock was there. That's why.

"It's really a shame to have these fascist scumbags contaminate Red Rocks. Romney and Ryan stand for everything that is base, false, and unclean. They represent an insatiable greed for ever more wealth that allows them to justify stealing from the poor, the elderly, and the disabled in order to line the pockets of the very rich. Given the chance, they will drag this nation into a moral cesspool. Hopefully, America will be spared from the filthy depths of their depravity."

Red Rocks is a great venue, beautiful. There was a free concert (Kid Rock, Rodney Atkins whoever he is) the weather was beautiful here today. Colorado has plenty of conservatives and the Highlands Ranch area would be absolutely in the tank for Romney no matter what. He hasn't been here in the Denver area all that much, sticking to friendly, conservative places like Colorado Springs and the western slope. So I could see him getting that many for a fancy schmancy event like that

The venue is only packed while musicians are on stage. No way would those people have shown up if only Romney was speaking. BTW, Romney pissed off a lot of people by putting out too many tickets. Driving 4 hours only to get turned away does not endear a voter to a candidate.

Kid Rock isn't that cool and it wasn't a full blown concert. Kid on acoustic guitar. Red Rocks is lovely, but it's not the easiest place to visit - the parking lots suck, and there's a long long walk up...I've had to stop many a time to catch my breath during my years of going to many, many concerts.

Let's not fool ourselves - Colorado is typically a red state. Obama hate runs deep here and we have a Secretary of State determined to disenfranchise Demorcats. Rachel Maddow touched on it tonight and it was reported a few hours ago, Gessler has found 300 illegal voters. Last week it was 14, this week 300????

People shoot bullets at Obama offices in CO, paint swastikas on Obama campaign windows.

Many here have turned on the President - it's gotten fugly.

At City Park right in the middle of Denver. It's a HUGE park. I hope there are at least double the people there (my kids and I will make at least 3 LOL).

Red Rocks is an interesting choice for RR. Built by a gov't stimulus:

"Red Rocks was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a Depression-era public work relief program under President Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal" that put unemployed men, ages 17-23, to work. Over a nine year span, the CCC employed 2.5 million young men which provided them with shelter, clothing, food and a small wage.

At the base of the famous shirtless "CCC Worker" statue at the venue a sign reads:

Erected in 2004 by Chapter 7, NACCCA, in cooperation with the City and County of Denver. Dedicated in honor of the 3 million workers who served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1933 to 1942 and to those members of Co 1848, SP 13-C at Morrison, Colorado who were the builders of this Red Rocks Amphitheatre from 1936 to 1941."

I thought at first it was a Romney rally.. I mean ONLY ROmney.

Now that I read the story, they could NOT give away enough tickets, then just opened it up to social media that there was a free Kid Rock and Atkins concert in the park... That is why everyone showed up. They gave up the original idea of trying to have it be a political event, because people weren't interested.

I think the media would be dishonest in saying that this was a Romney crowd. This was a free concert crowd... and there was no effort, after the original plans to make it a Romney thing, to make sure it was his supporters. I'm sure that the majority of people when to the bathroom when Romney came onstage.

And giving away free tickets online that oversold the place, was incredibly dumb. Wow... Another social media fail by the romney camp.

Oh and GOSH.. ANOTHER big Romney event within 8 hours of driving time from UTAH!!! LOL. They're so obvious.

Kid Rock.. gross.

Only 5-6,000 would have showed. Had a couple of friends thinking about going to hear Atkins (big country fans) but knew it might be a problem. There aren't enough parking spots to accommodate more than 10,000 and even once you park, you have a long climb. These were concert-goers, not R supporters.
