(68,868 posts)I'm very grateful Kasich and Rubio never got traction with them--either of our candidates probably lose to them.

(47,803 posts)She said she'd be happy with either.
I was a little surprised (she's a liberal who has gotten more conservative about some things) but she said even though she disagrees with Kaisich on some things she trusts him.

(68,868 posts)It's hard to believe, but the talk about "compassionate conservatism" and "humble foreign policy" (yes he said that) worked.
General elections tend to bring people back onto their side of the fence.

(8,043 posts)Off the top of my head:
First image is of Medusa, who was supposed to turn men into stone just by them looking at her.
Second image is Eve in the Garden tempting Adam--after being seduced by the snake. In our culture (assuming you grew up somewhere in the Western world) this idea has been used from Neolithic times on forward to cast all women as evil temptresses.
Third image is Cleopatra hugging the asp to commit suicide.
How many did I get right?

In case you weren't raised in a Judeo-Christian or Islamic culture, snakes and women are often conflated. It's an old misogynist meme, and it bothers me whenever it comes up.
BTW, I voted for Bernie in my primary. Even so, I hate misogyny, even if it's directed at politicians I don't support.

(8,043 posts)And what exactly is "snake like behavior?" Crawling along the ground? Smelling with their tongues? Evolving into leglessness?
At it's best this is silly name-calling. "Corporate whore" "snake" "Hitlery" -- all about as mature as a junior high school playground.
