2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Vatican is anti-gay marriage and anti-abortion
Will Bernie rail against the pope for being a tool of the Vatican establishment and not a true revolutionary? How dare the pope not refute outright the sins of the church and demand sweeping change!!!!!!

(3,660 posts)How do you feel about Obama's support for drones? Or Hillary's willingness to compromise on abortion?

(3,660 posts)You complain about Bernie agreeing with someone on the economy and climate change, but because he disagrees with another position, you think (or at least have fake outrage for) he should yell and scream.
It's rare that you agree with someone on everything. And how would politicians get anything done if they couldn't work together on the issues on which they agree?
It also demonstrates your hypocrisy in posting this, if you don't similarly care about those stances from Obama or Hillary.

(8,352 posts)'revolutionary' strawman you created in your own. So if the premise of the argument is already false...

(8,352 posts)is still not fully for abortion in all cases.
So your straw man burns before you even get started. So sad!

(2,117 posts)The fact that you did, in fact, change your mind on Santa means you can't be trusted to always have the same beliefs your whole life, and are obviously untrustworthy. People should not evolve, that's what you're saying.
The church, on the other hand, still against all that stuff.
And I too am against late term abortion. so I don't care about that part.
wrong.
I never believed in Santa. Sorry.
You don't care about a lot until you do which means why should we care at all about anything you say?

(68,918 posts)This pope appears to be more welcoming to those with differing ideals. If we were going to go with "historical popes," Bernie would not have "scored" a speaking slot by mere fact of being a Jew not so long ago.
While I don't support the beliefs of the Catholic Church, I do appreciate the focus on the poor of our world.

(5,636 posts)... I really wish he didn't go (though it's probably good for Hillary that he's away a couple days). The Church is homophobic and sexist, and while this Pope may stand for some good things, the last thing we need is a president who who panders to a Church.

(1,729 posts)So many folks are all worried about who invited who. This is more about allowing the oldest and most wealthy institution in the world to leverage its power over the will of the voter. How is this any different than taking your marching orders from corporations? And I think the debate last night showed that Hillary has not done this.
Merryland
(1,134 posts)utter nonsense.

(1,729 posts)Clearly you don't understand the power of religious devotion and how how religious leaders and institutions manipulate their followers and their votes.
Oh, that reminds me, a panel in California just recommended Leslie Van Houten for parole. Perhaps she's been in there all these years as the result ofwhat was the term you usedhypnosis or something? No. It was misguided devotion, but devotion nonetheless.
I am no fan of corporate greed taking priority over the will of the voter but greed is far easier to negotiate with than devotion. It's why Obama also took money from corporations and still voted against them. It's also why I've never read about a suicide bomber blowing himself up for a stack of cash and a pair of sneakers. Only extreme devotion has that power, whether it be devotion to religion or, well, devotion to a cause. And yeah, I think that last implication should be obvious.

Why didn't we invade Saudi Arabia instead of Iraq? They made up the lions share of 9/11 hijackers?
Shouldn't Hillary Apologize?
How can she even correspond with them at this point?

(1,134 posts)and tell them just how you feel. Or better, just picket your own local Catholic church. I am radically non-Catholic but you have got to be kidding with these persistent one-note posts.

(68,918 posts)when the priest turned the homily of the week into a dioceses-sanctioned hate speech against gay marriage. Those of us who did made our point better than posting about it on a message board. I never looked back and gave up on religion for good in 2007.
The hurt and anger over this visit is blowing my mind.

If asked Bernie will probably stand up for us like he did at Liberty University:
And the right of a woman to control her own body.
I believe gay rights and gay marriage.
Unlike your candidate who went to Saddleback Church to pander to the bigots and who also agreed with the religious right in opposing marriage equality.
And who also recently said she's willing to compromise on abortion.
Let me know when Bernie starts agreeing to bargain away our rights.
