2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI think Bernie has a very important decision to make.
Either come together right now and organize to support Hillary AND play a very important role in shaping the future of the Democratic party to make positive changes. Or to continue with his negative campaigning, ignoring to call off his vicious and over-the-top supporters, and become another spoiler for the party and relate himself to the dust bin of history.
Hillary is forgiving and gracious and smart. She knows she needs Bernie supporters to win the GE but she will go it without them if need be. This means that they will have little or no chance to shape the platform or be substantively relevant in a Clinton administration.
The number really do not add up for him to win this and it is total disrespect for his supporters if he continues to lead them on. Of course, he may be holding on for an indictment. If that happens he can always re-enter the race and maybe win it but to continue tearing down Hillary at this point if harmful the Dem party and his own political career.

(11,605 posts)I know that his chances to win are remote. And I in no way feel disrespected by his campaign.
I don't even disagree with you that he should go back to running a positive campaign, which I think is what he prefers as well.
I agree that he should bow out gracefully at the right time, which to me is the point at which she actually attains enough delegates to lock up the nomination. At that point, continuing to campaign would be futile.

(1,359 posts)If not for Schumer and Reid agreeing to kneecap any potential Democratic challengers to Sanders in VT in exchange for his vote, I'm not sure we'd even be in this mess. Schumer, at least, should be able to leverage Sanders' committee involvement on behalf of Democrats beyond 2016 to get Sanders to tone down the hateful rhetoric he's been spewing lately, not just about Clinton, but all Democrats.

(9,385 posts)Grassroots Dems don't seem to know that because Bernie doesn't blow his own horn about everything he could take credit for.
Contrary to assumptions Bernie does have friends in Congress, and would have more supers if many weren't afraid of the Clinton machine. However that will likely change as the convention gets closer -- less time to endure their rath.
Some people (such as Chuck) do know the 26-year reality of Sanders' work in Congress, as opposed to the one-way talking points Hillary puts out.
As the following video shows, Sanders and Hillary couldn't possibly be more opposite as people. Hillary catalogs everything she considers a slight to her, and every favor she's owed something back for...

(9,385 posts)Otherwise she won't be vetted, and we can't have that now, can we?
Besides, people do have a right to know what they're voting for.
Hillary only wants us on board so she can say, "see how progressive I am?" She wants to have us cosign the guilt for all the dirty stuff she's going to do.
It'll be the same as what Obama did, being by turns condescending and abusive, only probably worse. No, thanks, we don't need more of that.
Note: Bernie doesn't call us off, and we don't vote for who we're told to, by him or by anyone which I'm sure he knows. We don't function on groupthink, like Hillary's side does.
Nobody knows the future, and nobody knows how this is going to turn out, and for anyone to suggest that the process doesn't need to be completed is SIMPLE VOTER REPRESSION. And this sort of post is highly offensive.
Tell your candidate to withdraw and get behind Sanders because nobody should be running for President who is under FBI investigation with 30+ civil court cases active.
See how that works?
