(35,619 posts)Kevin Drum calls Bernie Sanders a con artist because he wouldn't achieve all his goals. But Drum doesn't call Hillary Clinton a con artist because she wouldn't.
I agree with VP Joe Biden who praised Bernie Sanders for setting big goals.

(86 posts)I would never call this article "great." It is an idea which has been played and replayed and repackaged - even if slightly - again and again. It really is old news. I would suggest people start by looking at what Bernie Sanders did in Burlington, Vermont when he was mayor. He accomplished pretty much everything he said he would and Burlington was much better for it. He even has the support of at least 25% of Vermont Republicans. I have seen interviews of a few Vermont republicans, and to a person they have said, Bernie is good for his word. He does what he says he will do and that's why I support him.
I am 67 years old. I protested the Vietnam War and was involved in the women's movement and the abortion rights movement. I worked to give women the right to make decisions about their own bodies. Who the hell doesn't know it takes time to do these things? You would have to be naive to think all that Bernie is talking about would come to pass immediately. I have seen interviews with young people at his rallies, and again, when asked, to a person they have said that they understand these things won't happen overnight. It's a process which has to start sometime by someone willing to put the wheels in motion and then hand the work over to the next person.
Noam Chomsky, a person critical of Bernie initially, has now said, "Bernie is not really a Socialist. He is a decent, honest New Dealer." Now, Chomsky is on board and is part of the movement to keep this ball rolling even if Bernie doesn't get elected. By the way, I have never heard anyone refer to Clinton as a decent, honest person. She may be more honest than she appears, but she is her own worst enemy. One has to be very naive to not understand why she can't release the wall street transcripts. because they would end her bid for the presidency.
The saddest thing to me, a life-long democrat and union supporter, is that democrats are walking away from the New Deal and all it did for this country. That, to me, is exactly what Clinton represents.
Nothing good happens fast. Every grown person knows that. It's time to be willing to do the work. Bernie's life is a testament to that, and Hillary's accomplishments in the senate and even as SOS can't hold a candle to what Bernie Sanders has done with his life.

(9,841 posts)The median family income is just over $50,000.
There are so many other lies and distortions in there, I'm kind of surprised Mother Jones published it.

(9,841 posts)It's an open secret now that the official calculations remove long-time job-seekers from the "unemployed" category and puts them into the "not in the labor force" category. Which is just a statistical way of sweeping them under the rug.
When you count all of them, and all of the underemployed, the real unemployment rate is closer to 15%.

This article is really nothing new--Drum has been sounding like a member of HRC's campaign staff for months now.
