2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOutside of the DU echo chamber... Enthusiam for candidates...
What have your experiences been with folks being genuinely excited about a presidential candidate through this primary season?
I've met rabid Bernie and Trump supporters relatively frequently. I have yet to meet anyone really excited about Hillary or any of the former primary candidates.
Have you experienced something different? If you've seen the same, do you think that is a sign of the general dissatisfaction with the status quo? Which is itself something that Bernie and Trump have tapped into with great success.
Thoughts?

(14,255 posts)NO to Hillary, or I hate Hillary or anyone but Hillary, with - great enthusiasm.
I see a lot of Bernie stickers, a few Trump stickers, no Hillary stickers. I have even seen old Romney stickers.

Trump supporters tend to not let their preference be known, at least publicly. They lurk in the shadows.

(115,681 posts)When he mentioned he liked Trump, the other guy he was with rolled his eyes and suggested he'd lost his mind. I have not yet met a single enthusiastic Hillary supporter (though I did see one on Facebook), and I've seen exactly one Hillary bumper sticker. Everyone I hang out with who has expressed any preference has expressed it for Bernie, with enthusiasm, accompanied with dislike for Hillary and intense loathing for Trump.

(2,474 posts)I've noticed an interesting divide.
Of those who let their opinions be known, the Bernie supporters fall exclusively in the Officer camp and the Trump folks are universally enlisted/NCOs.
Topped off with an overall aversion to all things Hillary.

(4,463 posts)I know three enthusiastic Trump supporters and 1 Sanders supporter. I know seven enthusiastic Hillary supporters. The rest of the people are a few marginal Trump but don't really like him, Hillary ok, none Sanders.
Guess it's the crowd you hang with...

(10,098 posts)The caucus in my state seemed not to have much enthusiasm for Hillary. Including myself, but I'll vote if she's the nominee, it will be the least inspiring presidential vote I've ever made.

(2,474 posts)I'd be interested to hear from the Hillary folks here, who seem to buck the trend by being very enthusiastic about her.
Do they run in packs outside of DU?

(3,655 posts)at the last county precinct caucus(2008) almost everyone was in the Obama camp or Edwards camp. Out of 487 delegates, about a dozen were in camp Hillary.

(1,198 posts)No one is enthusiastic about Hillary. Maybe we're not old enough to settle and be glad about settling. No one thinks Trump will "barely win" - the consensus is Sanders will crush, Hillary ought to pull it off if nominated unless she doesn't, and if she doesn't, it will be a Trump landslide not a narrow win.
If you are the American version of a Labour Party person who neverlheless celebrated Maggie Thatcher's election as the first female prime minister, you're probably excited about Hillary. Otherwise you're not excited unless your last name is Clinton.
Oddly, I HAVE met Republicans who are excited about Hillary being a likely nominee, but no Democrats
